I have never attempted to record any of my live gigs so I have no live recordings.
But I do have a collection of decent recordings of just myself and a guitar that I would like to release. Problem is...they all contain a random glitch or mistake here and there. So, if I were to release them I'd feel obliged to re-record to fix all of those issues. HOWEVER...
If I had a new BIAB RealTrack called Crowds, I'd just mix that track in with my "decent" recordings and release that as a "live" or ""unplugged" set!
I'm imagining it would work like this,
- a collection of each of the following, a) intro "just been introduced" applause/reaction b) end of song "big applause" c) quiet room noise for during the song d) slightly louder room noise for between songs e) laughter for jokes between songs f) end of the night "huge applause"
- part markers would be used to control types of crowd sounds, a through f
- since it is RealTracks there is less chance of me getting duplicate crowd sounds in various sections of the same song
- this has been done for many, many years in situation comedies on TV using laugh tracks
(sorry for the double posting but I felt it needed to also be in the main BIAB wishlist to get attention)
Thanks for that but not what I am looking for! Making the crowd noise for even a single song would be a long and tedious endeavor using those 7 second bits and pieces. In the same way I like having BIAB provide full instrumentation so I don't need to patch together drums, bass, guitars, etc...I would love to have BIAB have crowd noise that could be mostly automatically applied to create a somewhat unique "crowd track" for each song.

AKA "Terrible" canned laughter. Note the emphasis on 'terrible' Those guys just don't know when to stop pushing the button. Every sentence doesn't deserve a laugh
But I digress. Now, back to the program...

Yes, awful but also...awfully effective! I think BIAB can do a much better job than laugh tracks and a much better job than me piecing together unmatched 7-second clips (and about 1,000 times faster!)
Any chance while we’re at it, to include the noise of the two or three deaf elderly women that insist upon sitting in the front row and discussing their medical complaints or whatever at the top of their voices. ;-) Tony

That would be actuated with a B or C Part Marker I guess

And for our classical listeners add the 4 guys in the front two rows who cough threw the entire performance.

On a more serious note. Why a RealTrack of applause surely it would not need to be added musically and I can’t see the timing as an issue. Or is it just the FX that could be added to a track. If it is just the effect then why not use an SFZ of applause in Sforzando on a midi track.
Just a thought. Tony

I guess it would be the same reason I prefer RealTrack guitars and pianos instead of SFZ guitars and pianos!
I use RealTracks because they sound real. It is almost impossible to get the same feel and timing with midi (albeit I add midi occasionally to fill in etc). The guitar strum on a RealTrack is real and hard to replicate. Similarly piano, banjo, mandolin and many other instruments including drums. I am not a good piano or keyboard player so to use these pro tracks are great. Add these abilities to a number of chord changes and timings and believe me I see the need for and use for RealTracks.
I don’t see it the same for applause. For a start what keys do you need the applause in? What tempo should the applause be? Does it matter if someone is clapping or cheering off key or out of time? Would the applause of many hundreds sound realistic if playing to 50 people? I can understand some folk would like to make a recording as if they were playing live but where and when would you add the applause. I really think applause would be easier to control as an effect. If I was to use applause I think it would be added after the song left BB that way I could control it better.
My thoughts Tony

I was just thinking about the crowd noise, to a have continuous background you could use a UserTrack and set it to Drums so it's not trying to fit to chords or playing fills, this is what you use for a drone with bagpipe UserTracks, so you just want a crowd that will drone on: EDIT: I don't know how it's gonna go with tempo changing, you would have to have a lot of different tempos ?? It may work better with a midi triggered sample player that just loops an ambient audience noise sample without changing tempo and you can trigger other cheers randomly and trigger applause at the end. I will think about it more....
