Really enjoyed doing this old folk song from 1824.
All comments welcome. Rob

Billy Boy

An "old time" folk style featuring busy and cheery acoustic guitar and clawhammer banjo. Acoustic bass and brushes drums are also present to create an effective yet subtle rhythmic foundation. Guitar and banjo are panned left and right so their intricacies are easily heard. This song features a progression with rapid chord changes - often only two beats long - that suits the musical style well.

Rob,

Memories of campfire singalongs-I never realised there were so many verses to this!
Good vocals and a nice rollicking folky back track kept my toes tapping.

A catchy rendition of a classic.

Nicely sung, nice arrangement, enjoyable listen. As Robert noted, a real toe-tapper!

I liked the handclaps that entered at 0:44.

Two minor nits, with a large heaping of "IMHO" - the "string section" intro seemed out of place, and the end a bit too long.

Fun listen! laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Bob,
it's a well sung rendition.
I have to agree with David C re the intro - a more active fiddle like the other phrases used would've made more sense given the rest of the arrangement.
The hand claps were a pleasant surprise though maybe a largerphone could've been OD'd to achieve a similar effect.
Well done.

Cheers

I really liked your version here. Very modernized, and definitely has a nostalgic quality to it. A solid campfire tune for sure smile The claps and strings were a nice addition in my opinion.

Thanks for sharing!

This brings back memories of my elementary music teacher, Mrs. Gilman. She always had us singing this song along with "Waltzing Matilda." I enjoyed your rendition along with the instrumentation you chose.

Rob,

This is such a good presentation! I love it.

The minute you started singing, my brain flicked back over five decades of pages of memory to when I was in primary school. I grew up in a little country town, population around 300, and this was one of the songs we used to sing regularly when the class had music lessons. It's incredible how the brain, given the right stimulus, can recall so much from so long ago. Thank you!

Your singing is super and your presentation is thoroughly engaging. At 6:45 here on January 17th, You've invigorated me for the day ahead. Much appreciated!

All the best,
Noel
