Nice melody and love lost lyric.
The arrangement is appropriate though I reckon the snare is way too loud.
Why is the vocal over on the side rather than up the middle? That'd be part of the reason the snare seems to dominate - there's nothing strong to balance it up the middle.

Irrespective of genre if the song has soul we are in.
And this has it for sure with the expressive heartfelt vocal (and lyric).
As blueage said, it "admits the presence of just the barest glimmer of hope ..."
The piano carries things along very nicely with an overall great choice of "band members."
The entire arrangement works toward a most melancholy delivery. Mission accomplished.
