A quick and quirky take on current affairs from my neighbourhood walk observations.

Red Kite Joy

don`t go back to sleep
this too shall pass
cooped kids slide the lock on
light through curtains sneak
eyes reach through the glass
bonnie birds spiral high
time to teach swallows how to fly

take the banner dad binned
says blowing in the wind
borrow string from our tent
break sticks from the fence
girls and boys
red kite joy

the waving granny`s on her bench
she`s lived through worse
you see a lot from a distance
nature takes revenge
deer eat from her purse
silence is like a new law
she misses those kids next door

banging pots and pans
guitars made from oil cans
walks behind their garden
hopes the racket`s starting
girls and boys
junk band noise
girls and boys
red kite joy

don`t go back to sleep

Hi Robert ...

You have such a wonderful way with words! And the song is so good! Love the arrangement! Your backing tracks really fill out the width with just the perfect charisma. Your vocal is very expressive and such a nice presentation of the lyric. Good stuff, Robert!!!

Wishing you the very best. Be safe ...

Alan

Robert,

Interesting lyrics, as always.

An excellent production - really well executed. Nice build start to finish.

And a good mix.

Good stuff, Robert!

I was reading your lyrics with the current state of affairs in mind. Got most of the references, but "deer eat from her purse" left me puzzled?

Track sounds good to me, enjoyed!

Thanks Alan,JPT, Floyd, Dave & Scott for your listens and comments.
I answer to your question, Dave: I go walking or biking at around sunrise every day and of course noticed the suddenly quiet streets after the lockdown took effect.
Its been interesting ( and enjoyable) to notice nature filling the vacuum in my small town; eagles in the closed park, raccoons out raiding and deer that wander down the road instead of crossing; fearless enough to get close to that granny.

Robert

Enjoyed the song, the production and the mood it evokes.

A really nice topical composition.

That is a thing of beauty Robert! All those strangely odd but lovely chord changes make this one for me! I love all the many, many extra little touches you inserted in this! And last but above all is the wonderful lyrical content! Thanks, Torrey

Hello Ed,

Very lovely song. I almost could see before my eyes what's going on.
But these are also somewhat wonderful observations through your neighbourhood. Have you sneaked in somewhere?
And took the 1,5 mtr serious?

No i'm teasing a bit. But I had to, because all your songs have this quality of the lyrics and the band, so I can't think of something to teach you. I'm afraid it's mostly the other way around. I loved the banjo playing a subtle role in it as well, because I like that 'dangerous' instrument if it fits in a song. and in yours it did perfectly!

PeterF, Torrey, James- thank you for those listens and kind comments.
Hans; very few folks out and about in the early hours and I can wave back at the granny from the required distance! Who is Ed??

Hi Robert,

I thought Ed was your second name. No, I didn't. I made a terrible mistake. I can imagine how shocked you were reading it. The only Ed in this forum I can think of is Ed Shaw (look him up). I think your music styles are sooo close. One can easily get confused by that. Does this sounds convincing enough? (don't believe me, it's a lie). I don't know how I mixed up his name with yours.
But do you still like my songs?

Another beauty, RKC. Have you ever published a book? I think you should. It's great we have access here to your luminous mind but you deserve a bigger audience. And you turn these out so quick, how do you do that? Great stuff.

Robert,
Nice tune and relevant theme. I enjoy reading your lyrics, they are like a beautiful labyrinth, even if I get lost in them, it is fun to explore.
Enjoyed it! Thank you for posting.

P.S.Thank you for unintentional reminder, I have a huge single string kite that I have to fix, and I know a perfect corn field to take it to.

Ember: thanks for listening.

Tunemonger: no books for me... I`m almost the only person I know who still reads them!
My song production rate is mostly down to a hyperactive imagination and few responsibilities to keep it in check. Thanks for staying tuned!

Rustyspoon:a kite in a cornfield? That sounds like my kind of distancing. I appreciate your comments.

A lot great of surprises on that journey. I didn't see the feel change to a peppy feel coming, or that wonderful wall of vocals!

A very nice song to listen to!

Thanks for sharing it! smile
