Hello Folks,
I've been a bit quiet of late due to the abundance of new posts in the Showcase. The sheer number oppressed me as I couldn't keep up added to the significant number of new songs thematically linked to the current circumstances we find ourselves within: very good in the main and therapeutic/cathartic for the writers as well but those two factors combined were/are powerful.
Instead I worked on a couple of projects.
This one is, essentially, an example of my amp making the sounds it's supposed to.
I used a few BIAB guitar solos over the weeks but none seem to fit/grab the rest of the song. I posted in another forum to find a guitarist but encountered a chap who spend hours and MANY posts telling me the song was impossible to work on as it defied the basic rule of chord structures - the need for a root chord. The furore that came from that blizzard of posts ensured no on there wanted to have a crack at it so elsewhere I mentioned the issue and 1/2 a dozen people spent half an hour to prove that it was possible and not difficult.
The chap playing the solo on this version was a symphonic bassoon player and has been a 6 day a week gigging solo act for the last couple of decades.
BIAB provided the drums, as usual. Bass (Vantage), rhythm guitars (Squire Mustang & Guyatone 125T) and voice (AT condenser)are me. I'm not sure what Louisiana Steve used for the solo but it's definitely a guitar.
It's an Iggy late Stooges style trash/thrash song that is over very quickly.

Lyrics were requested. I was disinclined to post them as the grammar is appalling and GOT, a word I avoid as much as possible, gets quite an airing.

I've taken on FJ's suggestion and added a smidgeon of reverb to the vocal - a very tenuous position for a recovering reverb junkie...

Nah V2
AND it's finished, mastered and now THE video...

[video:youtube]https://youtu.be/G-Q1_PwVYGo [/video]
Clearly I can't manage to make a video appear on the page despite using the media tag thing...sorry.

Oh well...
Nah, Not A Bit

I’ve got a car
I’ve got a gun
I’ve got a girl
Now I’m gonna get some fun
I don’t care about anyone

You couldn’t catch us if you tried
Can’t find our past because we lied
Can’t read our minds because they’re fried.
Hell, that won’t matter once we’ve died
Won’t bother me
Not a bit

I’ll blow her mind
She’ll blow my mind
We’ll show the world
We’ll blow you all away
Don’t care what you say

You couldn’t catch us if you tried
Can’t find our past because we lied
Can’t read our minds because they’re fried.
That won’t matter once we’ve died
I don’t care
Nah, not a bit

Solo

I’ve got a car
I’ve got a gun
I’ve got a girl
Now I’m gonna get some fun
I don’t care about anyone

You couldn’t catch us if you tried
Can’t find our past because we lied
Can’t read our minds because they’re fried.
Hell, that won’t matter once we’ve died
Won’t bother me
Ha, not at all

I’ve got a car
I’ve got a gun
I’ve got a girl
I’ve got a car
I’ve got a gun (He’s got a gun)
I’ve got a girl

Yeah! I like this, Ray, love the attitude.

Guitars/bass sound good, vocal sounds good too!

I like the guitar solo too, good fit for the song. Love that last note, the Eb, perfect way to end it.

Good stuff, enjoyed.

Hi Ray,

Is this you singing here? It is indeed some sort of Iggy Pop song, not a bit!
Even I liked this song, Ray! The first tones of it I had to brace myself, but then I liked how the singer (you?) did the singing (very good) and the band played very convincing.
A pity there weren't any lyrics in your post.
All together it's an adrenaline-boosting song. Well done!

Thanks Dave.
For a song that supposedly can't be resolved the Eb does a good job doesn't it?

Hans,
Thanks. I've posted the lyrics for you...not much to read - just a trashy car/gun/girl penny dreadful.
Yes, it's me non-singing.

ray...

Cool! A great Punk sound. And a very convincing Punk write.

A good balance on everything. Bass, drums and guitars all come across as they should for the style. And a good vocal! - which also matches the style (and the band) well. I thought it could have used just a little more reverb (and delay?) - which would likely mean it would then need a bit more volume...

Really well done! I like it!

Excellent, Ray! Very well done.
The guitar solo rocks. Great punk sound.

Really like this one!

Ray,

I GOT to say- I like your attitude! The sound is aggressive without going over the top into punk territory and everything works- including the vocals.
I`m glad you stuck with your convictions and found a guitarist- this is head banging fun.

Got it, Rayc! Can't believe you wasted so much on some dude who didn't get it. Of course it's possible. It's music. Make it. This a cool, high-energy (no-root) tune, man. Enjoyed it from intro to abrupt end, especially since the guy gets the girl.

I missed you around here, sir. I'll often take a break from the showcase just to follow your posts. Not stalking ya, but it's become a great way for me to learn.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Attitude to the max!

We cranked it up and it all hangs together so well.

I don't know how you put together these productions that are in your face yet they don't sound slammed to the ceiling. They breathe enough to be punchy and dynamic. Beats me but it works and works well.

Irrespective of the hassles we're glad all this came together for you. That guitar and your vocals really carry this.

Cool!

Ray,
Ok... Rocker-Rocks. Punker-punks?
Very tasty punk tune! I agree with Robert, it is on that sharp blade borderline between the genre and anarchy - You walked it like a skilled tight roper. Challenging musically - sure! Don't listen to folks who say "impossible", you done a grand job on it. Kept me engaged all through. I was pleasantly shocked and surprised how well you sung this. I listened to it twice before reading annotations. I would never guessed it was you smile Liked it! Thank you for sharing.

Thanks fj,
I've added a pinch or reverb and raised the vocals to compensate. Thanks for the suggestion.

Not the solo one would expect from a bassoon player is it Steve?
Thanks for the kind words.

Robert,
Over many years as a primary, (elementary?), school teacher I had a ritual of taking a class out to bury GOT and thereafter refusing to allow its ghost in the room.
Thanks for the kind words.

Marty,
the chap's a sad sack I fear but I was trying to be polite.

Thanks J&B,
At this stage it's pre mastering and only has some gentle glue compression & no limiting.
I know I don't have the ears & nous to suss out when limiting has gone to far so I don't go there.

Thanks Misha,
It helps that I didn't actually sing - as well as it being "comped" together from three separate versions with entirely different phrasing.
