Could some one kindly tell me how to correctly sync an external MIDI device (drum machine, sequencer, etc) to BIAB? In my case I am trying to synchronize a Roland TR-8S drum machine with BIAB. When I hit play in BIAB the drum machine should slave to BIAB and play along at the same tempo. I am well familiar with MIDI and have tried EVERYTHING I can think of to get it to work but without success. It should be working! It is not. I've been communicating with PGMUSIC for a solution and they don't know. They sent me to this forum to try to find an answer.
Here is what I have done so far.
1. In the "MIDI/Audio Drivers Setup" window I have selected the correct MIDI input and MIDI Output driver. 2. In the "MIDI Options" window I have selected. "MIDI Thru", "Controllers Thru", "Use Thru Channel". I have also selected "Output Sync/Start info". 3. My drum machine is set to sync to external. Omni.
When I hit play in BIAB my drum machine SHOULD start playing and sync to BIAB. Instead nothing happens.
I know my drum machine is set correctly because if I do the same thing in my DAW (Cakewalk Sonar) my drum machine syncs to Sonar totally fine. So obviously there is some setting in BIAB that has been overlooked.
if biab dont work, you might have to import the biab file into realband (which you will have) and try sync that way. once again use the knowledge base. realband has more sync/hookup features if i remember. i assume that you are sending midi info out of biab to external drum machine.. are you sure you are ?
also realband has a helpful midi utility i havent used in ages showing midi traffic that might help you. it might be that your midi channels are mismatched. check your useing same midi channel sending out of biab or realband as the same midi channel the roland is receiving on. ive seen mismatches in the past. normally i used midi ch 10 when i did midi drums if i remember. give pipeline maybe a ding/pm maybe cos he knows all these neat other great utilities that might help.
check your useing same midi channel sending out of biab or realband as the same midi channel the roland is receiving on.
That is most likely solution. It sounds like you want to hear the BiaB drum track from the Roland, correct?
If you expect the Roland to receive the messages from BiaB/RB, make sure the the app and the device are set to the same MIDI channel.
BiaB is likely sending drums on channel 10. Sonar may default to channel 1 and thus the drum machine 'hears' it. Can the Roland receive data on channel 10?
Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome
I tested in Realband as you suggested and it more-or-less worked right away. I selected my drum machine's MIDI IN and OUT ports. After that I just had to enable "Send Realtime Messages". Preferences -> 6-MIDI -> MIDI OUT -> enable "Send Realtime Messages".
So, we know in theory it should work in BIAB. How do we actually do it? It should be straightforward like Realband. Is there somewhere in BIAB that "Send Realtime Messages" needs to be enabled?
