Hi All,

Here's kind of a folky / beat poetry piece. This is called Shadow Lights.

Running shadow lights
Up and down the hall
Running shadow lights
On your apartment wall

Casting shadow lights
All across 110th
Casting shadow lights
Over Central Park West

Leather jacket dreams
When we were 24
Leather jacket dreams
I think Schott is what you wore

Rising shadow lights
Around this new old town
Rising shadow lights
Above New Lebanon

Running shadow lights
Time’s a ticking bomb
Facing shadow lights
Tracing lines on your palm

Running shadow lights
Running shadow lights
Running shadow lights

BIAB Tracks:
0365: Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking
2364: ElectroFlutes, Rhythm Pop
2505: Piano, Electric, HeldChords
2474: Bass, Acoustic, Held
RealDrums: MalletsFolk16ths

As always - thanks for listening!

Hypnotic. A couple of notes, a couple of chords, et voila. Wish I had your talent to "get straight to the point", when I myself write a song. Incredibly beautiful. The lyrics are mesmerizing, too, evoking (as I perceive it) memories. It's a pleasure to hear your works.

At first I thought your song was a bit boring because there's not much variety, but on second listen it grew on me, it's kinda hypnotic and probably the first song since Strawberry where I like a Mellotron.
Very well done!

Bob, a perfect example of less is more!
Fantastic lyrics and vocal.
The mellotron sounds great - brilliant!
Super mix.
I think this is your best to date.

Hi, Bob.

Love the build of the arrangement. As B.D. says, the repetition is almost hypnotic.

Cool! smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Bob, beautiful song! The arrangement has a sweet lullaby quality that is very easy on the ears. Your lyrics are always interesting and subtly literate, and these are no exception. The whole package has a Lou Reed, post-beat NYC feel to me. Absolutely love it.

There is a beautiful ensemble between the vocals, the guitar and the flute. It's a nice mélopée (in French).

Nicely done, Bob, I love the way the song builds as it progresses.

Reminds me of something Lou Reed might have done.

Enjoyed!

Bob, I always get the feeling of being in Manhattan in your songs. This time the upper west side. Back in the seventies I wandered those streets. My cousin lived at 102nd and Amsterdam while my sister lived nearby. Of course it was affordable then. The simple arrangement works well and the mellotron was quite the surprising element. After the first few seconds I found it worked perfectly. Poetry set in simplicity. Another good one, Tom

That is So Nice.
Intimate Vocal.
A Just-Right Production.

"Leather jacket dreams
When we were 24
Leather jacket dreams
I think Schott is what you wore"

Poetic. And, yet still a Song. Not an easy thing to pull of.
Talent.

Bob,

Your music is always such a pleasure to listen to.

I like your voice in this lower register - you don't do that often. For me, it's a real treat when you do. If there's poetic majesty on this forum, it would be - hands down. Contrary to the thinking of so many people, poetic writing is not an easy transition to music. But you have the touch.

As typical, the lyric is "honest" and speaks to many.

Thanks for a soothing listen!

Alan

As a New Yorker ... I like imagery in the lyrics, I like the way it builds by adding instruments, without overpowering the lyric or vocals.

Hi rsdean,

Composition that lends itself to reverie. It's soft, vaporous and our mind lets itself be carried away by your lyrics. Well done..

Bob...I always love your use of the acoustic in your songs...really nice build of the instrumentation...your lyrics (poetry) are always so picturesque and always an appropriate match to the score...a lovely, gentle song and mix!

This one has come out really well Bob. The production end of this is fantastic. The instruments you use are surprising at times, and they really dress up the feeling of your lyrics. I think you did a masterful job at the build, as many have rightfully mentioned.

So well done, Bob. You always tap into your listeners memory banks even if they never had experiences you're singing about. That is a huge talent. Your vocal always mesmerizes.

Beat poetry or mood music, it is just good!

We were envisioning the scenes in black and white and could feel the hours and days slipping by. This verse was special:

“Running shadow lights
Time’s a ticking bomb
Facing shadow lights
Tracing lines on your palm”

We enjoyed the laid back band too.
We liked the mallets and the electric piano held chords.

Fine production in all aspects!
