Band-in-a-Box® 2015 for Mac Update - Build 106 (40 MB)

This patch will update Band-in-a-Box® 2015 to build 106 from any previous 2015 build. You need to have Band-in-a-Box® 2015 (build 101 or higher) installed for this update to work.

If you are updating an external PG Music hard drive, make sure to choose the correct destination volume (install on specific hard drive).

Summary of Changes for Build 106 (Oct 23, 2015)

  • Fixed: There is a grayed-out checkbox in Notation Options that doesn't do anything "Show fret #s on chord diagrams".
  • Fixed: Rendering to AIFF or M4A from various places in the program might cause a crash.

Summary of Changes for Build 105 (Oct 14, 2015)

  • Improved: Audio > Move Performance Track to Audio... was a bit unclear for choosing the source track. Now the custom track label and default track labels are indicated, and only existing Performance tracks can be chosen.
  • Improved: When a song has an audio track offset (e.g. the audio track offset might be set when using the Audio Chord Wizard), and recording audio during the non-existing audio section at the beginning of the track, the audio track offset will be removed and replaced with the recorded audio.
  • Improved: Audio Edit window has a better looking scrollbar that also responds to clicks in between the thumb & arrow buttons (scrolls a whole page).
  • Fixed: Audio Edit playback cursor would blink (far left) when not playing.
  • Fixed: Entering a negative millisecond value in the Audio Range Dialog when choosing (Audio > Edit Audio > Timeshift Audio...) would move audio from the cursor to the left, whereas it should match the Band-in-a-Box for Windows behaviour instead (erase audio to the right of the cursor instead of the left).
  • Fixed: When importing an audio file using the Audio Import dialog, and the file contains tempo data, Audio Master (Base) Tempo is always changed to the file's tempo regardless if the user cancels the dialog or unchecks 'Set Audio Master (Base) Tempo to '.
  • Fixed: When importing an audio file using the Audio Import dialog, the 'overwrite' method should not be replacing the existing audio track (it should be doing what the 'merge' method was doing).
  • Fixed: When importing an audio file using the Audio Import dialog, the 'merge' method is supposed to overdub new audio onto existing audio.
  • Fixed: Audio > Edit Audio > Insert Bars was shortening the resulting audio file. E.g. if inserting 1 second of silence into a 4 second file, the resulting file would be 3 seconds long (2 seconds shorter than it should be).
  • Fixed: Audio > Edit Audio > Convert Channels (mono/stereo)... would not work if the audio track had not been edited yet.
  • Fixed: Audio > Edit Audio > Convert Channels (mono/stereo)... while Audio Edit window is open would not properly resize the wave editing area.
  • Fixed: Using Audio > Edit Audio > Convert Channels (mono/stereo)... to convert the audio track from mono-stereo would cause the Audio Edit window to zoom in as far as possible.
  • Fixed: If user resizes window to be larger than the workable area (e.g. overlapping the Dock), the program response would become very slow.
  • Fixed: Acid Loops would say 'Acid Loop (AIFF)' in the memo of the Loops dialog.
  • Fixed: Audio > Edit Audio > Convert Channels (mono/stereo)... would miss a small chunk data at the end of file.
  • Fixed: If using an uncommon audio file format (e.g. 48000Hz/32bit) for the audio track, meta-data in the file would be lost.
  • Fixed: Audio > Edit Audio > Erase Region of Audio... would not preserve meta-data in the WAV file used by the audio track.
  • Fixed: Audio > Edit Audio > Adjust level of region of Wave file (permanent)... would not preserve meta-data in the WAV file used by the audio track.
  • Fixed: Drag-n-Drop exporting of a single track would always mix in the audio track.
  • Fixed: A song would not return to original overall song tempo when hitting stop, if song has tempo changes and playback started from middle of song.
  • Fixed: Starting playback from the middle of the song, when the song has tempo changes, would cause the audio track to go out of sync.
  • Fixed: When a song has an audio track offset (e.g. the audio track offset might be set when using the Audio Chord Wizard), recorded audio will be placed near the end of the song (shifted).
  • Fixed: When a song has an audio track offset (e.g. the audio track offset might be set when using the Audio Chord Wizard), it would remain in the song after the audio track was removed, and would cause any new audio to be shifted.
  • Fixed: If a song previously had an audio track, and the user gets the "mysong.wav is not found" message, re-saving did not stop the message (the message says that it will).
  • Fixed: Rendering any track into an Artist Performance Track would always mix in the audio track.
  • Fixed: The [Clear All] button in RealTracks Picker would cause a crash if the current style contained RealTracks.
  • Fixed: Opening the event list [#] in the Notation window would cause a crash if there were zero events on the current track.
  • Fixed: Melody > Track Type > Single Channel, etc... current item was never checked.
  • Fixed: Soloist > Track Type > Single Channel, etc... current item was never checked.
  • Fixed: Play > Freeze a Track > Bass, etc... items were not checked/unchecked when freezing from the Mixer.
  • Fixed: When using the Save as Video dialog, [Cancel Rendering] would not cancel the rendering process.
  • Fixed: Big Piano button was missing from popup menu (smaller resolutions).
  • Fixed: Dragging mouse to selecte region of Audio Edit window would allow cursor to go paste beginning or end of track.
  • Fixed: (for localized versions): The mixer would show the shortened RealTracks and MIDI SuperTracks names instead of the full ones.

  • Improved: With bigger screen resolutions, Section Letters & bar numbers will display on the Chord Sheet (not just Section Letters).
  • Improved: Band-in-a-Box® can now record audio in any sample rate, instead of having to change the settings of the device before opening the program (the audio data will be resampled to 44.1kHz after recording).
  • Improved: Audio Settings dialog added, which can be accessed from the general Preferences dialog. This allows you to choose your default audio track type (mono/stereo), or current track type, and which channels to record from (left/right/both). There is also a new option for getting a warning message when you open a song and the audio track is missing. The Audio Devices dialog can also be launched from the Audio Settings dialog.

  • Improved: The Audio Devices dialog now shows the streaming format specifications of each output and input device listed. This shows the number of channels, bit depth, and sampling rate.

  • Fixed: Big Piano was showing a 'CC' label until the user moves their mouse over the keys.
  • Fixed: Video Window button had wrong hint.
  • Fixed: Simple button had wrong hint.

  • Fixed: Volume changes (using Bar Settings) were not working properly for RealTracks or RealDrums.
  • Updated: PDF Manuals.

  • Fixed: Rendering a video would often fail (video file gets deleted at the last moment).
  • Fixed: Changing the current bar in the leadsheet or notation window, would not highlight the appropriate cell in the chordsheet.
  • Improved: Video Window added. This allows you to open a video file in Band-in-a-Box® and play it along with your song. You can extract the video part of the file (no audio), or extract the audio part (no video), or keep both. The video can be sped up or slowed down, and the audio will be stretched using Elastique.

  • Fixed: Audio > Move Audio to Performance Track... was not warning user about overwriting an existing APT.
  • Fixed: Audio > Move Performance Track to Audio... would fail with a confusing -2 error when there was an existing audio track, rather than asking the user permission to kill the existing track and enable the Undo option.

RealTracks and RealDrums updates

Summary of Changes for August 27, 2010

  • Updated: General maintenance update.
  • Updated: Program updates for non-English versions.
  • Updated: PDF manual.

Summary of Changes for July 8, 2010

  • Added: The StylePicker now has a filter to show/hide Real or MIDI styles. So if you only want to see MIDI styles, or if you only want to see styles that use some/all RealTracks, you can set this.
  • Added: If you like the current mix (of volumes, panning, reverb), and you want this applied as a default for all songs, you can now set this by Right clicking on the Combo radio control. Choose "Make Current Mix the Default", "Load Default Mix" or "Reset Mix (to factory defaults)".
  • Added: RealTracks naturally occurring pushes are enhanced in many styles. This requires updating the ST2/XT2 files, and these are included in the 2010.5 update.
  • Added: When rendering, you can now add a dB amount to the whole mix, so that the mix will be louder or softer. There is automatic "peak-limiting" added, so that the music will not distort if you set it too high.
  • Added: Styles can now be made that are set to use Half-Time and Double-Time RealTracks. For example, you can make a Jazz Ballad style (tempo 65) that uses a Sax Soloist at tempo 140 (playing double time).
  • Added: If Band-in-a-Box® cannot find your RealTracks folder or your Drums folder, a yellow hint message appears at bootup to alert you to that, and tells you how to fix it: "Note: You have RealTracks installed, but none are found in your RealTracks folder. You should point to your correct RealTracks folder in Prefs-RealTracks Settings."
  • Improved: RealTracks Pushes are now played a little quieter (2 dB quieter), so that they dont stand out as much.
  • Added: For RealTracks, many Jazz comping styles now play triads (instead of 7ths) when simple triads are entered, instead of "jazzing them up" to 7ths chords (e.g. Guitar: Freddie, Wes Piano: Some Jazz. All Stride, Rehearsal). If you prefer this "the old way", where triads are automatically "jazzed up" when comping using Jazz RealTracks, then you can set the Prefs-Realtracks settings option to force 7ths for triads.
  • Added: Enhancements for entering songs quickly. Typing special words, instead of chord names, will make the following settings:
    • begin - sets the begin of the chorus to the current bar
    • end - sets the end of the song to the current bar
    • chorusend - sets the end of the song chorus to the current bar
    • tkc - sets key signature to c, tkbb would set it to bb
    • trc - transposes song to key of C
    • t125 - sets tempo to 125
  • Added: Enhancements for playing songs from the chordsheet
    • spacebar or double click on ending bar (or a bar in the tag), and it will play from the ending (or tag). This only applies to the chordsheet, since notation windows always play from the ending or tag already.
    • Right Click on ChordSheet (or notation) to quickly set Chorus Begin, Chorus End, or Song Ending
  • Added: Real Drums button now has a menu (like RealTracks picker button) to choose RD Prefs or RD Picker. Ctrl-Click or Shift-Click to choose the Prefs or Picker directly.
  • Added: The Auto-generated song memo now says if Real Drums come from the song or style
  • Added: A message now appears if a frozen track is loaded, but the required RealTracks or RealDrums folders do not exist.
  • Improved: Frozen tracks now start playing faster if played again.
  • Improved: In the RealTracks picker, the columns for Set # and Holds # sort is improved.
  • Important change: The default for the tempo swapping feature for RealTracks is now true. It used to be false. Tempo-swapping is a nice feature that will automatically substitute a similar RealTracks that is recorded at a tempo closer to the current tempo. For example, if you load a ballad style, with a RealTracks piano at a tempo of 60, and then speed the song up to 200, BBs tempo-swapping feature will choose a RealTracks piano that is closer to 200, likely one that is 190. Prefs-RealTracks to disable this feature.
  • Improved: Band-in-a-Box® will keep on generating RealTracks even if some wav files are missing.
  • Fixed: Chord Options Update button updates the chordsheet, clear all works better.
  • Changed: File-New gets volumes of 127, instead of 90.
  • Fixed: Spurious message about better realtracks available when half-time realtracks were used.
  • Fixed: Copying melody when regions overlapped was losing some notes
  • Fixed: Frozen tracks were playing louder, when Play pressed again.
  • Fixed: StyleFavorites.txt and SongFavorites.txt now stored in Preferences Folder instead of BB folder.
  • Fixed: Error when adding a style favorites from the recently used styles dialog.
  • Fixed: Stylemaker list of soloists was stopping at 898
  • Fixed: Audition button and + button (band audition) fixed in RealTracks Settings dialog. Looks for a band or solo demo in the RealTracks - Demos folder, and then the RT Folder, and then the web (pgmusic.com).
