Imagine a cat, with a tale (tail? wink ) to tell. He goes to a quintessentially British pub, to tell it. Sadly, he's not allowed inside, because, well, he's a cat ... so, thinking quickly, up on the roof he goes, and (from there) tells his story to anyone who'll listen.

Intrigued? Here's the track smile Thanks for listening, and for any and all comments!

James, that resonator is howling all right! Nice composition, and very cool changes. Like where you're placing the gospel vocals in the mix. Any more up front and they'd be a distraction, but they add a nice pad where they're at. Thanks for setting this one up with the descriptive title, really gives the tune a fun focus for the listener. Great job!

James, that hot cat on the tin roof plays one heck of a resonator!
Super song mixed to perfection.
I really enjoyed this song.

Based on the description I was expecting a vocal performance not an instrumental and as it was playing I was thinking, man that's a long intro! wink

Good track, love the resonator.

Love the feel of this one, and you decorated it beautifully with those special and throughly interesting James Delsono changes. You know I can still hear you singing/saying the story of this cool cat. Just curious... what was she hoping to get in the bar. I hope the whole town heard her lament, opened a Go-Fund me account, and she's now the proud owner of a national chain of bars called The Cool Cat. Very creative tune, James. Much loved.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanks, Ron. Yes, I was wondering whether to keep those gospel voices or not, but I thought they added to the atmosphere, so I eventually kept them. Maybe they are the voices of the revellers in the pub, below? smile Either way, thanks so much for listening and for such a kind and detailed comment!

Hi, James.

Interesting - with the voices and resonator, it sort of has a slow Western Swing feel to it... only with your patented chord progressions! laugh

Despite the threat of a yowling cat, it's pretty chill.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Hi James.

What a cool and inventive idea to use a resonator guitar as if it were a cat's vocals.
Your creativity always amazes me. It worked for me.
I loved it smile

As I listened, I was reminded of a piece of classical music written in the 1800s by Gioachino Rossini call the "Duetto buffo di due gatti" (The Cat Duet). If you haven't seen this duet, I encourage you to watch it. It's a very entertaining way to use music to create some humour.

Listening to your work, I realised that it would be possible to do recreate "The Cat Duet" with BIAB, some MIDI, Synth V vocaloids and some clever editing in a DAW.

One of your musical signatures is that you like to push boundaries and, in addition, you write and arrange fearlessly.
I always admire and applaud those traits.

All the very best,
--Noel

James,

Nice. A good group of tracks. The resonator is a good choice.
Good mix.

I kept waiting for the cat to sing....

smile smile smile You always write the nicest and funniest comments, Marty. Thanks for making me smile smile

D'you know, I myself am none too sure what this cat wanted from the inside of the pub. Maybe companionship? Maybe a friendly, listening ear? Maybe a stiff drink, or even a combination of these things, perhaps? Well, it wasn't let in, so we'll never know, right? smile As for the chain of pubs, what a great idea ... were it not for the fact that I have a sneaking suspicion that this particular cat is actually teetotal ... though one doesn't have to actually drink in order to own a chain of pubs, true ...

Thanks so much for your comments ... as usual, far, far too kind smile

James,

I could have sworn I posted a comment on this yesterday. Oh well, guess I never hit the "Post Reply" button. In any event, it's a good instrumental. As others have noted, that resonator guitar really shines and personifies the cat so well. Really good job with this one! Well done!!

All my best,

Deej

Cool notion going with the resonator.
And the rest of the band supports it well too.

Must have been a warm roof instead of the proverbial "cat on a hot tin roof" --
as mentioned in the Tennessee Williams play of the same name. smile
Cool slinky band and a nice mix.

Enjoyed it!

You're far, far too kind, Noel. Thanks for such kind comments!

As it happens, I know the Duetto smile - it was kind of an inspiration for this. It's a fabulously funny piece! smile I'm so glad that my little "imitation" brought the original Rossini to your mind!

I may write fearlessly, in your ever so kind opinion, but even I am not sure if I should take on the Duetto with BIAB. It can be done, of that I'm sure; but my natural laziness usually baulks at the kind of work needed smile Still ... it's an interesting thought, so - at the end of the day - why not? haha smile

Thanks again, ever so much, for your kindness. It's a genuine pleasure to hear from you. I look forward to hearing more of your own songs!
