Thanks, Andrew. Dirge-like tempos are also fun to play. Like BiaB, Dave has never complained about the strange keys my voice often requires. That's even more valuable than a drummer who knows chords, right? smile

It's a personal thing, but sad blues songs aside I think the worst self-pitying song ever written was that pop song, possibly from the 80s, where a lady goes to her ex's wedding and screams out "It should have been me!" laugh It makes me laugh as I write it as in reality it'd make mega-embarrassing scenario! laugh
PS: I'm baffled by the copyright date on the video opening image. We were both born in 1951, so © 1951 implies that your wrote the song shortly after being born and it was about a previous live. laugh
Thanks, Chay. I don't get copyright on my songs anymore --mostly cuz o' apathy. It's just my spoof on the whole thing.

You gentlemen make coming to the forum a great experience. Almost everyone on the forum creates some terrific music. But your music has that little extra that makes the spolight shine a wee bit brighter.

Nice!!!

Really enjoyed your collab..great vocal, esp the stop at the end! Liked the organ accent, the lyric idea/title…Marty, you sound so authentic, this must be an autobiographical reminiscence from your teenage years!

Well done, Marty and Dave.

That guitar, I'll start with it, because wow. It cries, in your hands, Dave.

Then there's Marty, singing and playing bass and writing music and lyrics as if it was the most natural thing in the world. It probably is, for him.

Together, you've created a small masterpiece. The lyrics stand out and suit the music so well ... dark, broody, brilliant. Loved it all ... wanna listen again smile Hats off, gentlemen.

Thanks, Ron. Have fun in NOLA, man. Can't wait to hear the first song you write when you get back.

I've been waiting for this to be listed on this forum, because this is easily in the top 3 Marty songs smile Also one that has been playing in my head especially when I've been down or walking in the mire.
There's much pain in the lyrics, but I can safely drown in the hurt by listening to this excellent blues. Very touching.
Excellent band, Dave's guitar is most emotional ever and so is your voice - every word bleeds.
There's simply nothing here that needs changing, lyrics, melody, chords, playing, singing, arrangement, mix, all are of the highest quality. The song is a masterpiece and should become a blues standard.
And back to listen to it for one more time...

Janne

The dark side of Marty - and you bring it across very well.
I also love the interplay between the rhythmic guitar and Dave's fills - perfect timing.

Thanks, Mark. Yeah, a lot of Blues songs would have me drowning in hurt at quarter to three in the morning while wondering if I can fit all my stuff into a matchbox. Nah, I wasn't drowning, but I know a lot of folks who once were. Ironically it was the Blues that saved them.

This is not the standard upbeat Marty fare. Good job capturing the mood with the music and instrumentation. I think that note at 3:30 ("drowning") is the highest one I've heard you sing. Excellent song.
PG Music should hire you and Dave to lay down some tracks.
THanks, Scott. You're right. Although I've hit the G(4) a couple times for harmony where I can hide the flaws, this time I had to practice that F(4) over and over and wait for the right day to record.

Haha. Thanks, Ray. Not sure of your reference. But are you saying when you heard the word "mire" your brain was s distracted by a jingle or slogan? Ha, if so, that's perfect --for the jingle, I mean. That's exactly what commercials are supposed to do. If so, send the writer my congrats.

A slow burn blues is, no surprise, a favorite of ours.

Love the rhymes within the lines.

Your vocal is oozing soul in this one, Marty!
Even without the video we could envision this forlorn person of the lyric.
And Dave’s searing solo added so well to that imagery.

The resophonic guitar was a cool addition and your bass is never too much or too little.
Perfecto. As is the mix.

Excellent,

J&B

Thanks, James. Yeah, don't ya just love how Dave can wring out such anguish by doing what he loves. I truly appreciate your kind words, James.

Thanks, Janne. I like your "safely drown" apprach to enjoyment. Dave and I both got into this for sure. Ha, I can imagine you walking through the mire now, singing what comes to mind.
