There's a quote somewhere by the (to me) extraordinary Sufist poet and mystic, Rumi, which basically says that lovers never meet, because they are inside one another all the time, so it's basically somewhat foolish to actually look for your lover on the outside (given that he or she is always within you). This inspired me to write this ... see what you think, if you thus feel inclined? Thanks for listening, and for any comments smile

Rumi Says

THE LYRICS:

It's been
Many, many, many years since we last spoke
It's been
Many, many, many times my heart you broke,

I still
Think of you, every time a white rose is in bloom,
Thinking
That perhaps, at last, God will reunite us, and soon,

But Rumi says you're inside of me,
And Rumi says: why look outside of me,
See, Rumi says that we will never meet
For inside one another our hearts will beat,
Rumi says.

I thought
Many, many, many years ago I did see,
Such a
Stunning, stunning, stunning girl, outside of me

Then I
Looked, ever so oft, for you, the one I saw then ...
I let
Countless, countless songs of love flow out, from my own pen ...

But Rumi says you're inside of me,
And Rumi says: why look outside of me,
See, Rumi says that we will never meet
For inside one another our hearts will beat,
Rumi says.

I'm no mystic, nor poet, nor singer-songwriter, see,
So all I can do is pray you one day will come back to me,

Though Rumi says ...

James,

Very creative and a great write. That's an excellent arrangement & mix. The Synth V vocals sound very nice here - natural and emotive.

Great stuff!

James, very pretty tune with some new twists while still retaining your signature sound. Love the instrument choices, arrangement and harmonic movement. Vocals fill in capably. Nicely done!

Cool ... That's the neat thing about this forum. There's all kinds of writers and musicians here. A lot of forums tend to be along certain genre lines.... not here.

While I rarely ever go seeking this genre, this is well done. I was thinking smoky late night, or more likely, early 2am kind of jazz.... Someone else mentioned musical..... yep, could fit that easier actually because Eleanore has too pretty a voice for this IMHO. But in the musical genre, maybe not so much and a better fit. Asterion was a good fit.

Nicely done.

Extraordinary, James. Your compositions boast of your musical knowledge. Love the feel of this, and, man, you are getting really good at those synth vocals. Rumi says this is a magical look inside of wonderful talent. Love the lyrics too.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hi James.

I love this type of laid-back jazz, and you've captured the style and the feel really well. These lyrics are a credit to you. They are creative, inventive and the way they flow is excellent. I found both Asterian and Eleanor very satisfying to listen to. Their singing sat comfortably on my ears. In addition, I love the way you've used Asterian. You've created a superb tone for this vocaloid and it fits beautifully with the genre. I tip my metaphorical hat to you. You've done an awesome job!

Thanks for sharing your fine creation!

Cool work James.
There're a few spots when I wondered if the melody or synth vocal was having a little trouble translating but the overall impression is of a show tune but folk with BIG lungs.
Well done sir.

Cheers

Ron, thank you. Glad you liked it! Tried to write something different, yet retaining key elements of the same (i.e. a different take on the same story), so I'm so glad it seems to have worked! Thanks for taking the time!

Thanks, Herb. I was going for a deceptively laid back style, a sort of "acceptance, because one has to" vibe - which seems to have come through. At any rate, I'm glad you liked it, such as it is.

And yes, this forum has incredible songwriters, in so many styles ... and all of them so versatile, themselves. It's a privilege to be here, to have you ladies and gentlemen let me post my efforts on here, and to get so much constructive feedback on them. Thanks PG Music, and thank you for listening!

We agree that he is indeed extraordinary.
On a wall in our kitchen hangs an anniversary "card" Bud made for Janice.
And it includes a quote from your Rumi inspiration! smile

Your excellent write well captured the feel you described in your write up.
The band is perfectly laid back for the vibe.

Good work with the arrangement and vocals.
That must be quite a rabbit hole to go down.

Nice!

As you probably already know, I'm not keen on Synth V vocals, but the song theme is a nice idea. It would work better with goodd real vocalists Rumi is also a favourite of mine, but the lover within isn't about any external person, it's about your own eternal spirit which is already One with the One.

Some favourite Waoist Adages:
#1: Play on the Way.
#13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you.
#58: Bring consciousness to it.
#63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made.
#92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Thanks, Ray. Yep ... the synth voice WAS having trouble translating, in places! I eventually gave up trying to make it sing exactly what I wanted it to sing, and said: "well, here goes, anyway". Thanks so much for listening and for taking the trouble to comment!

Janice, Bud: wow. Rumi touches so many hearts. Yes, I agree ... what a human being to exist. Did he really exist down here, on this Earth, or ... ? smile

Thanks so much for your kind comments!!!

WaoBand: thanks so much for listening and for your kind comments about the song!!!

You are spot on about Rumi's meaning. I was trying to just juxtapose the singer's longing for an external lover he HAS met, with Rumi's philosophy that the "real" Lover (the One) is inside. I think this singer wants both, haha ... smile ... hence his "dilemma" on how to cope with both, as I tried to express it in the song smile
