A short "pop-y" song with some pedal steel. We just finished it tonight. Hope you like it.

Key=G, Tempo 120, Length (m:s)=2:46
Style is _MANPULA.STY (Medium Pop Country Mandolin)

RealTracks in style: 1277:Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm PopUpliftA-B Ev16 120
RealTracks in style: 1270:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm PopUpliftSyncMuted Ev16 120
RealTracks in style: 1948:Mandolin, Rhythm PopUpliftingAndy Ev16 120
RealTracks in song: 691:Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming AcRockBright Ev 120

Marty and I worked on the band in a box part face to face. I wrote the melody and lyrics; did vocals, pedal steel and the weird video production. Marty did EZ Drum, mixing and played bass.
Here are the lyrics.

Vivian from oblivion thinks I'm the King of Hearts.
Be a father be a son. Start it up, get it done.
I met her mama at the country store. I coulda said a little less. I coulda done a little more.
I got a mind to share all of mine.

Take the corners give it too much gas. It seems like forever but it's going too fast

Ready for the cake and confetti with Vivian

Birds are flying at a soaring height like a Monday morning on a Saturday night
Smokey fire ...in a quiet year
She's the blade in my razor
When does a wound become a scar

Ready for the cake and confetti with Vivian

The world don't want your dance. Dance it anyway.

Ready for the cake and confetti with Vivian

sound of the scratching of my pen I'm living in a house of mirrors again

Ready for the cake and confetti with Vivian

Hi Bill and Marty!
This one skips along nicely! I love how you can make a steel guitar sound not so country-ish - and I appreciate that! Three listens now and I'll have to go back for more.
I am really intrigued by the lyrics and what they don't say. I do like lyrics that can be interpreted in many ways and aren't too direct.
Great song - well done.

guys, I really enjoyed that! I'm not sure what it's saying--but I'm going to read the words again to try to decode it! I especially liked that break (I think before the 2nd verse?)--very effective. And making Vivian into Vivi-UN--quite clever--to make it rhyme with "oblivion"--I whole-heartedly approve of that pronunciation change! The steel guitar parts were outstanding, and the overall mix and production first-class! So glad I took a listen!

Bill and Marty, super tune, guys! Very strong and expressive vocals and harmonies. Cool instrumental break leading to the final choruses. Superb arrangement, love what you have the steel doing. Also great rhythm section, Marty! Nice one!

Hi, Bill and Marty.

Fun pop!

There are some nice lyrics there as well. There's a story you're not telling about them?

Good job on the vocals, but the real star of the song is the pedal steel guitar. smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Really liked this a lot. Good lyrics - as some have said, it seems an intriguing story that's not quite fully told. But some of the best songs are like that. Good collab, looking forward to more.

Very enjoyable tune reminsicent of the Kinks or Elvis Costello. Cake and confetti...that's some powerful alliteration and I struggle to think of another song that uses the word confetti. Really like the band, the mix, and the vocals.

No idea what it means but it sounds great wink

Thanks Andrew. You got it. What I was trying to do was add some pedal steel that was not county and to make lyrics that you could add your own meaning to.

Thanks Tano. I'm going to reply below to Marty's post about the lyrics but that mystery is what I was trying for

Ta -dum... OK. I have been writing cool one liners onto my phone for years. Usually, when writing a country song, I only need one for the song title and then flesh out the rest. For this one, I had the first line about slightly whacky relationships. When I needed the next line, I just sang the next phone entry until I found one I liked. I put the rest of the lines in that way and used up my whole list. The chorus was from a reply I got from a friend who was complaining about his whacky wife. I asked "then why did you marry her?" He answered; "just for the cake and confetti" referring to the joy of the wedding reception.

Thanks Ron, I didn't really get into the steel until I got a top of the line model. You get what you pay for

Thanks David. The truth about the lyrics is out in my reply to Marty above but I always enjoy someone enjoying a steel guitar. Even my humble attempts at it.

Yup, you got what I was trying for; not a literal story just an indication. Thanks Tunemonger

I didn't know what to expect when I first read the lyrics, but I was pleasantly surprised. What a great sounding song! I liked everything about it, and it had me captivated in its entirety. Good vocal.
