Yet even more 1930s stuff from me. The usual caveat about the vox applies. If any of you good singers wish to breathe some life into this the way Beth reworked my last song, I'd be much obliged. I used the BALFRED Realstyle. I sang and played harmonica.

Lyrics are a little iffy in spots as well, it was a tricky topic to write about.

We're older, less bolder, not kids no more it's true
No lovin' to spice our afternoons,
But honey, it's funny, We're tighter than ever now, and
I need you like lovers require the moon
It's true time's dulled the thrill of when we first fell in love,
So when I hold your hand, that for me is enough,
I worry, you'll scurry, to swank societies
Where women spend endless afternoons
Don't do it, eschew it, I'm at your beck and call, and
I need you like lovers require the moon

Solo

It's true we might be through with passionate sultry love,
But if I'm less than spry, just give me a gentle shove
You are, dear, by far, dear, the best I'll ever know,
Just maybe I still can make you swoon,
If not, well, we'll be swell, exchanging adoring looks, cuz
I need you like lovers require the moon.

Bob,

You have such a cool style. I think your vocal is perfect for this arrangement. Great choice of instruments and that harmonica wraps everything up nicely.

Loved it!

Bob,

The mood of the 1930s is captured so beautifully.
You're a master of this genre.
The choice of instruments is great too, with the harmonica adding a nice touch.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Hey, Toots! Superb throwback tune you have here. I quite like your vocals on this tune--they're perfect! GREAT harmonica fills and solo. The band swings along nicely and compliment the lead parts nicely. Super mix, too. Nice one!

The song is very descriptive of lovers of a certain age. Very relatable.
Don't mind the vocals at all. Your voice, which is a very good fit for the genre, reminds me somewhat of British band leader, vocalist and drummer Ray Ellington

Bob, so, so nice! Loved the 3-note motif to kick off your verse lines, and the great rhyming. Love/shove is esp craftsman-like, being one of the toughest rhymes to work with. There are a couple of multi-syllable words that just roll off so smoothly. Liked everything about this, and, as was mentioned, reminded me of Toots, one of my favorite of all musicians—once got to see him at the Village Vanguard on a night that happened to be his birthday—will never forget it. Great post!

Nicely produced song with apt instrumentation. The harmonica is excellent and the lyrics are fine. Enjoyed it.

Thanks, Ron. What I lack with vocals, I try to make up with harp. Appreciate the support!

Tom, I think you and I are cut from the same cloth. We may not be great singers, but we try to make up for it with clever songs and clever rhymes. I'm jealous you saw Toots live. I've seen many great harp players live: James Cotton, Paul Butterfield, Sonny Terry, Carey Bell, Sugar Blue, Norton Buffalo, Kim Wilson, Mark Wenner, Phil Wiggins, Doug Jay, and many more. But I never saw Toots. On chromatic, he was the best. Thanks for your kind deconstruction of Lovers Require the Moon. It means a lot.

Floyd, you've given so much to this forum, you're indispensible. Thanks for your kind review of this tune. You've always encouraged me to sing, and I appreciate that a great deal. You have no idea how many takes I need to get a halfway decent vocal. But hey, I'm retired, I've got the time. So glad you and others like the harp. It's the only thing for which I can claim a modicum of musical proficiency. And thanks for noting the rhyming - it means a lot.

Very nice handling of the "older, less bolder" theme, delicately spicy. "Like lovers require the moon" is a nicely apt phrase, the rhyming sounds both natural and clever. The band is smooth, your vocal is pleasant, your harmonica fills perfectly and makes the song feel more personal.

Your voice on this enjoyable track is so perfectly suited. Seriously, I can't fathom anyone else even attempting this, let alone pulling it off with such effortless charm. 👌 🎀
It's the holy trinity of your vocals, those wonderfully quirky lyrics, and that super-charged harmonica wizardry that makes this a true listening pleasure. It's pure joy, distilled and bottled for my eardrums. 🎧 🎜 ♫ ♬
It is a lovely cruisy tune which is very easy to listen to. It's like a musical hammock gently rocking my soul. `·._.··¸.-~´¨¯`·._.··¸.-~´¨
I've said it before, and I'll shout it from the rooftops (or, you know, type it really loudly): Bob, you're a bona fide talent hiding in plain sight! ______ 𝐒𝐭✰𝐫 rated

Another fine nod to the era, Rob. I like the 'fry' in your voice on your opening notes. I think the lyrics are just fine...you even get scrabble points for some unusual ones.
