Hello Larry,

You can simply right click the Melody track and click Mute, is this sufficient for your needs? If not, please post a request in the Wishlist section of our forums. Our development staff reads your request directly, and there it has the highest odds of being implemented.

This is a request for a modification in the 11.5 program.

First I am a pro musician (woodwinds) that uses BIAB in my shows which at this point numbers sixteen different cabaret type shows.

In the past there has been a mute feature on the melody line. Normally I don't use the melody line so I keep it muted but sometimes I need to toggle the melody's sound on and off. Since I play sax I don't have a lot of free hands to do this with. So I keep the cursor on the melody dot and with one quick touch I can toggle the melody. (with a right click)

Unfortunately you have removed that feature and now I have to do more mouse clicks while going through a drop down menu to mute the melody. This is very inconvenient and makes it more difficult. I would like it back like earlier versions.

BTW I have been using BIAB since version 2 and own them all since then..

If there is any way to do a special fix such as programming a hot key, I would like to know about it. Actually a hot key would even be better if it were just one key stroke similar to the space bar feature to start and stop the tunes.

Larry,

In the 2011.5 program, you can keep the new mixer window open, which will let you mute/unmute with a single click on the "M". Have you taken a look at this yet?

Alt+9 mutes the melody. Via Bome's midi translator muting may be achieved with a single button or key.

While the TranzPort and midi translator combination provides substantial flexibility, John suggested a nice on-board solution.

The alt-9 works in the way I want it to work but pushing two things at the same time is akward but this is what I had in mind.

keeping the fly down window open is OK if you only want to mute or un mute once. Then. the cursor moves you have to re open the flydown, find the mute and click on it. IMPOSSIBLE if lets say you are trading fours.

Remember I play sax and don't have a lot of hands free. I do everything on the fly and do not use a mouse.

Re: the TranzPort -- That's all I need is another piece of equipment. With a laptop on my stand and a mixer there isn't a lot of room left.

There is another problem not related to you and that my laptop is black and I can't see the keys in many places that I play so I guess I will have to paint the alt-9 keys white LOL

I will try the alt-9 for awhile since that works the way I want it to.

Just an aside - I make a whole lot more money with BIAB than I can make as a side man on Saturday night and that's for only an hour instead of three. It's easier to get a couple hundred bucks for a single than it is to get six or seven hundred for a small group. The best part is my shows are only an hour. All my friends are in hobby bands and make $50 for a friday or satursay night playing three hours. I make most of the time $150 for an hour. Most musicians think it's about music but I think it's more about entertainment and business sense. My web site is www.thelarryshow.com if you want to see what I do.

Thank you for a great product
Larry

Hi Larry,

I'm pretty sure you could get one of the footswitches from these guys to transmit Alt-9.

You might want to shoot them an email to be sure, but it seems like an elegant solution, and can be worked hands-free.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
