To drag back toward the beginning you can't 'select whole' because the start point is then as far left as it can go.
Click select whole, then hold Shift and click by where the MIDI info starts to create a space at the beginning before your selected region. Then you can drag it. To drag it back toward beginning you need the space to drag it..
To see the MIDI channel, highlite the track and hit F2 key (or select Event List).
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome
