First of all I like it.. it has a real "Dire Straits meets the Rolling Stones" vibe going. Are you Australian by any chance? The music is where the Stones reference comes from, so I'm wondering if its your voice that makes my mind think of Dire Straits when I listen to the song Country is not my genre, so I'm not the guy to offer edge-cutting observations from a technical point of view.
