Hi All
Brand new to the site. I've been using BIAB for over 20 years on and off and it really was the launch pad for my songwriting & arranging skills.
I basically write my songs initially in BITB and sometimes in mixcraft then flesh out parts with real instrument overdubs played by myself and a couple of friends. I do final mixes in Cool Edit Pro.
Since the 90's I've amassed over 400 songs and instrumentals! Just recently I seemed to have gone up a level with my songwriting and arranging and thought I would share one such composition with you all. Hope you like it as much as I do. I guess you'd call it kinda 70's singer-songwriter/country rock.

Hitachi,

Welcome to the Showcase.

A terrific first post! Very well put together - a nice cohesive sound.
A nice write - as you say, a sound and feel that bring to mind 70's singer-songwriter/country rock.

Nice vocals.

Didn't know anyone still used Cool Edit Pro... didn't that morph into something else? If you have not experienced BIAB RealTracks and RealDrums yet (you did not say), you owe it to yourself to take a tour... you have the chops to really "soar" with them...

Enjoyed the listen.

Welcome to the forum Hitachi. This is very cool music!! I am a product of the 60's/70's music and can very much hear that influence in your song-Neil Young, Beatles, CSN, etc. This has a very pleasant, natural feel. Would like to see the lyrics printed. Very nice stuff!! Take care. Greg

Thanks everyone for your kind comments, really appreciate them. I shall post more songs soon. For those who asked, here are the lyrics:

Cherokee Wind
2013

1. When I Was a Young Man
I Rode The Prairie Lands
Looking For Treasure Neath The Sun

2. But When I Saw The Cherokee
Riding Shotgun on The Wind
I Bowed My Head
And Threw Away My Guns

Pre-Chorus
Coyotes Howling To The Eagle in The Sky
They’re Calling For To Take Me Home Again

Chorus
So I Ride Like The Wind
With The Spirits in The Sky
I Left My Tears Buried in The Ground
Casting Endless Shadows on The Trail of Burning Souls
Finding Reasons Lost That Have Been Found

3. When I Was a Young Man
I Searched Throughout The Night
Looking For Answers in The Sky

4. But When I Saw The Buffalo
Being Slaughtered ‘Cross The Land
I Raised My Hands
And Prayed Until I Cried

Pre-Chorus
Coyotes Howling To The Eagle in The Sky
They’re Calling For To Take Me Home Again

Chorus
Now I Ride Like The Wind
With The Spirits of The Night
I’ve Left The Past Buried in The Ground
If My Dreams of Constant Sorrow
Leave a Trail of Endless Tears
To Find The Reasons Why Will Not Be Found

Lead Break

Chorus
Now I Ride Like The Wind
With The Spirits of The Night
I’ve Left The Past Buried in The Ground
If My Dreams of Constant Sorrow
Leave a Trail of Endless Tears
To Find The Reasons Why Will Not Be Found

I like this. Nice melody and the lyrics are interesting as well. This is one of my favorite musical styles. 70's country rock, what a great time for the music. Poco, Eagles, The "Hot" band, MTB, PPL....

Welcome to the family. You're going to be posting some good stuff..... I can tell.

My observations on the song you posted. The vocals sound good. Interesting character to them. The backing mix is a bit low. Especially the fills and solos, need to come up quite a bit. They were way to far in the background when they should have been in the spotlight. In fact I would raise the backing levels on just about everything to fit around the vocals better. All of that is simply a "levels" adjustment issue. The parts themselves were spot on and tasty.

Nice harmony vocal parts. There's a lot to like here.

Great first post and song. I'm going to listen on cans later.

It's later on cans: Intro is hard right about 80% or so. Is that breathing I hear in the beginning? Acoustic, bass, and drums centered. Vocals are too loud for the background mix. fills need to come up. I'd also pull the fills closer to center of the sound stage. I like the piano.... it's nice and crisp sounding but it's on the hard right. Nothing wrong with that but I didn't hear anything on the left to balance it. Most of the fills and BGV are right sided. Try to be conscientious about providing a balance, what you do on one side of a mix needs to be balanced by something on the other. The guitar solo/fill is balanced.

I really like this song. I'm on the 6th listen as I'm writing this. I rarely listen that many times to anything other than something I'm mixing.

My comments are nit pickey but are intended to assist you in getting a better mix.

Looking forward to hearing more from you.

Hello Hitachi,

Yes, this definitely has a 70s sound.
But it's been put together very nicely.
We also dig the backing vocals.

Pleasant listen, well sung.

Very (very) small nit: the electric piano has a sort "cheap and cheesy" vibe to it. If you're redoing this, you might consider a different instrument.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?
