This was written for a specific project. Writing time was about 1 hr start to finish. Recording and production took a bit longer.

The band:

Bass 1523
Rock drums even & House crunchy kick
Acoustic: 598
Acoustic: 793
Fiddle: 1604 & 409
Piano: 2021
B3: 686
Electric 699 x2

One More Time

It was a fun little session for the writing and the recording. Vocals are doubled with lead down the center.... it's got a few warts I kinda left mostly out laziness. Let me know what you think.

Man that's good! A great vocal supporting a good write. The drums really make this stand out as well as the banjo. Nice stop. Really well done. I like your style, Tom

Herb, I’m with Tom, I really like it! You have a great vocal style! I envy you coming up with the lyrics on this in an hour. 90% of the time it takes me about 2 weeks to come up with lyrics I am satisfied with. Everything in this sounds very good! Thanks, Torrey

Kind words... thank you. The drums are almost doubled. I took a rock style drum real track and added a synth dance "4 on the floor" kick that runs under the main drums and throughout with a low pass EQ.

Thanks... this was a surprise to me as I started writing.... it was a write for a project based off the Melloncamp song Small Town. Don't look too hard at the first line of both songs. Ironically, I missed the deadline since I didn't have the time to get it recorded and finished in a timely manner. That happens....

Great work here! I definitely wouldn't have thought you wrote these lyrics in an hour, so kudos for that! It's a catchy tune for sure, and the arrangement is on point. It sounds very well mixed, and the vocal performance is spot on. It's a nice, casual country tune smile

Thanks so much for sharing!

Thanks for listening and commenting. Sometimes it just happens to all come out rather quickly and this was one of those. Most often it takes a few days to write something and sometimes, even longer. I still have a few things that have been "back-burner" projects for a while now.

Good write, for sure.

Could be listening to Bruce Springsteen.

Excellent vocal on this one. Perfect for a powerful song. Loved it Herb. Fiddle was pretty cool too.

You got me on that one, Herb.
Maybe it just hit me at the right time, I don't know.

This is great. I hear Springsteen, Mellencamp, and even some John Hiatt.

The groove is fantastic. It drives and drives and just won't quit. I dig in a really big way. Love the way the banjo comes in at the end.

A real "Nashville" production.

But mostly, it sounds like HERB. It has that "artist" feel to it--like you're listening to someone on top of their game. Great job.

Definitely Springsteen. Anything about a town, a car or "the streets" is Springsteen. Though he didn't really grow up in the kind of area you'd think from his lyrics.

I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

Herb,

Very cool song!
Your vocals sound so bright.
Very good tune and we really hear some Bruce Springsteen, like others said smile

Since I'm a big fan of Springsteen's music.... I have 2 of his first projects on cassette in my truck and listen to them often..... that's a nice compliment.

Thanks

Thanks Dave. Those first two were listed as possible influences for this project. Glad others are hearing them in the song.

Being from NJ originally when Bruce was just getting known..... we in S Jersey knew before the rest of the world found out about the story teller from the seaside towns and the seedy side of life on the streets of Jersey. Asbury Park was just a short drive but my folks liked Wildwood and Cape May better so we only got through there occasionally. He had developed a cult following in Jersey. I remember where I was the first time I heard his album Greetings From Asbury Park.

I've never seen him play live in all these years. Definitely love the sound his band has.

Thanks for listening.

Very cool Herb. Really, really well mixed.

I'm curious why you, a good guitar player used so many BIAB guitars?

It's interesting seeing you here. Looks like you're really active here. Are you still using Sonar? Any thoughts about which DAW next?

Peace,

Ian

Ian... man it's been a while. Good to see you too.

Yeah I still use Sonar to mix and record my live tracks. Regarding what's next...... Sonar until it finally dies and can't be reinstalled.

as to why I am using BB guitars.... one word: Laziness. I'm working on a new tune and I'll likely be playing something on it live.

Thanks for dropping in and commenting.
