I'm not sure if this is a music theory question or a tech question.
I'm putting together a piece in the key of Am. I chose that key because it is essentially the same as C with a different tonal center. As such, I think there should be no sharps/flats in the notation.
I'm only using one chord that varies from the chords related to the Am scale.
However, looking at the notation, there are 4 #'s. Don't ask me what key that is, but isn't that "wrong"? Reading further, there are many "naturals" within the notation. I think this would be all but unplayable for a genuine musician.
Is there any way to fix this. assuming I'm right and it is 'broken'?
Adding to VideoTracks excellent advice be sure to click on the Am in the Just Set Key Signature (no transpose) column. This will replace the key of E 4 sharps with the key of C no sharps or flats but will not change any of your chords. If you click on the Am in the first Transpose and Set Key Signature column you will change all the chords, something that in this case you will not want to do.
My goal this weekend is to move just enough each day so that no one pokes me to see if I'm dead or not.

Here's where it gets weird. Apparently BIAB was set to transpose +4 semitones, so apparently what I thought I was writing in Am was actually in a different key entirely. C#/Db?
In the preferences, I changed -transpose 4 semitones- to 0. Notation changed to no sharps/flats. Closed program, opened file again...the chord names had changed, but apparently not the actual sound. I finally got out my guitar and verified that what I had entered as an Am chord actually played (and showed) Fm.
So--apparently--I have written a song with chords chosen on the basis of an Am scale, but was transposed chord by chord +4. Does that sound right? If so, then are the correct chord names/played no longer associated with the new scale? My "home" chord is Fm. The Roman Numeral display shows it as VIm.
I'm no longer even concerned with the notation. I may have learned more theory than I set out to!
Here's the kicker though. I LIKE IT! Ain't gonna change a thing about this progression. It might be the style, but it sounds a little darker than minor.
I like it so much I'm going to try it with different "transpose" settings for more songs. I'm not sure how many "mistakes" I made to get to this, or to recreate it. Music is so much fun. Endless.
