When you open a .mid (MIDI) file it is ALL placed on the MELODY track
You can use File -> Import to open a menu and then you can "Import" selected part(s)/patch(s)/track(s) (aka MIDI channel(s) inside the mid file) but again they go on the MELODY track
Go to the Help, then in Index search for MIDI File and select MIDI FILE Importing
