An interesting and informative presentation. Backing tracks will always have their benefits and associated risks. In a live band, when the lead singer misses the middle 8, the band can cover instantly. Ask me how I know

An interesting and informative presentation. Backing tracks will always have their benefits and associated risks. In a live band, when the lead singer misses the middle 8, the band can cover instantly. Ask me how I know ... and, of course, when the bandleader nods to you a bar before a new chorus. There were some useful ideas in that that I may well use, if only for practice/rehearsal alone. Perhaps dumbly, it had never occurred to me to put vocal cues or words/melody reminders into such a track, but now that seems so obvious I feel almost embarrassed by it.
Jazz relative beginner, starting at a much older age than was helpful.

I ran searches for some of our songs on the karaoke-versions.com site, had a good percentage of hits, but also a significant number of misses. It gives a good idea of the popularity of a particular song and/or how well known, though like playlists, that risks persuading people to 'conform'. I guess I have to keep making my own backing tracks with BiaB. I find making and playing backing tracks an iterative process.
Sometimes after I've played a track at a gig I find I may wish to change the tempo a bit.
I may hear a different style for a tune after trying out a particular one I thought would work.
I may want A longer intro or a different ending.
Less keys or congas.
Always more cowbell.
Hard to do sometimes with a canned tracks you buy.
Pretty easy stuff with BIAB.
I make over 95% of my performance tracks with BIAB.
