NEVER CALL YOU MINE

https://www.reverbnation.com/kaynemusic/song/34360856-never-call-you-mine

Continuing my quest for writing Standards that anyone could cover, this one is a classic smooth jazz ballad.

90% BIAB Real Tracks, with a small edition of Halion Sonic Strings Midi

This one should have been an easy no brainer, but it took a ton of work. I tried 5 different groove versions; some were too busy, too stale, too schmaltzy, too much, etc. before settling in to this goldilocks version. I was also playing around with different bit resolutions, new plug-ins, and mixing ideas. I finally got it working ... let me know if I did !
Thanks

You rattled my imagination
cant think straight any more
You know you are all I hoped you would be
Now I see you are so much more

You have a certain inclination
and a different frame of mind
So confident and care free
I could never call you mine

Seems I've known you now for years gone by
Though we only met tonight
we danced we laughed and said goodbye
I could never call you mine

Im feeling new sensations Something I cant define
All within a moment or two
That count the passage of time

You caused a brief infatuation
cant get you off my mind
you are more than a passing fancy
but I could never call you mine

Hi Elliott,

Wow - what a song!

Also top instrumentation and mixing and loved those breathy vocals.

I wouldn't change a thing.

Excellent!

Best Regards
Nigel

Elliot, have said this before, but I really look forward to your songs for the thrilling arrangements. I mean, your songs consistently GO somewhere, and that's a real talent. Super mix on this, too. (The sax sounds a little flat to me relative to the rest of the mix, but I don't know if that's too much compression, not enough volume, or my imagination. Assume it's that last thing.)

Love what you're doing with Synth vocals. Know it has to be a lot of work. That will change soon, too, I think...

Hi, Elliot.

This sounds really good - even to my congested ears.

I love the mix - the drums pop, the bass bops, and the vocal is nice and up front.

Nice work with the vocals, too.

I've got a minor issue with the bass. It's got a cool part, but (to my ears) doesn't quite glue things together and support the vocal the way I'd like.

But ask me tomorrow and I might have a different opinion. wink

I really like this! smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

It's beautiful. Great intro and the rest even better. Not only is your song very good but the style behind it is bomb, I play a bit of bass and the guy who does the real track behind is not a fool.

To be honest, it's a style I don't really like.

That being said, this is a great song, and I love the vocal harmonies you wrote, Elliott.
Excellent arrangement and mix with the exception of the ride on the left, which gets a bit annoying after a while.

But other than that, the song is really good in every way!

Enjoyed!

Yes, this sounds great too Elliott, along with the other ones that you've written in this vein.

I think you're really really good at writing these type of Pop hits that other people could cover.

They're deceptively simple and catchy. I really like these a lot, good job.

Hi Elliott,

Today, this is the second song from you I listened to.
To be honest, I like the lead vocals in this song a bit more than in the first song.
They really sound naturall and airy. Very good.
Nice lyrics too, in a 'classic' way. I like that.
So when is that duett coming?

Elliott, what a fantastic pop song.
Outstanding work with those synth voices.
Great backing tracks.
Super use of those RTs.
IMHO I think this is your best to date.
