Several years ago, I organized my VST2 plugins, especially since at the time most apps supported both 32-bit and 64-bit version. However, all my VST3 plugins go to c:\Program Files\Common FIles\VST3.
My configuration is:
- c:\Apps\VST\32-bit\VendorName
- c:\Apps\VST\32-bit Only\VendorName
- c:\Apps\VST\64-bit\VendorName
- c:\Apps\VST\64-bit Only\VendorName
- c:\Apps\VST\jBridge\32-bit Hosts (64-bit Plugins) <- I only scan the "64-bit Only" folder
- c:\Apps\VST\jBridge\64-bit Hosts (32-bit Plugins) <- I only scan the "32-bit Only" folder
Depending on whether the DAW (or whatever music app) natively supports Bridged plugins, I can specify different combinations of the above to make all available to the program. This is less of an issue now that most plugins are VST3, but I keep the configuration for legacy purposes.
I have an installation document I created for when I rebuild my computer occasionally, so I have it documented where to install each one.
Of course, the irony is that I have a ton of plugins that I never use. LOL
