Hi All,

Here's a song that sat for many years unrecorded. Glad to have my friend Joliz along to help get this one done.

This is called RED BANK IN THE RAIN.

The Jersey streets are alive tonight
And the bridge is flooded with rain
The city’s coming through the windshield
And the wind howls like a train

Headlights bounce off the gutters
And the girls on the boulevard
A siren closes the distance
And cuts off all the cars

The Red Bank rain hits me
Like a hammer from the sky
But the radio pulls me close
Lays me out for another night

The streets lay down so quietly
Like a promise left for dead
And the station’s fading fast
As the hours tick ahead

The screen door’s blowing open
And the headlights disappear
The DJ says the songs are coming
Like some turntable Paul Revere

The Red Bank rain hits me
Like a hammer from the sky
But the radio pulls me close
Lays me out for another night

Yeah, the Red Bank rain hits me
Like a hammer from the sky
But the radio pulls me close
Lays me out for another night

Bon Jolene,

You folks make some mighty fine music. Glad you gave this one a chance in the spotlight. It deserves it. The chorus is so strong. You have a special gift for creating indelible mental images. Your music is almost like a movie. As always, enjoyed this very much.

Wishing both of you the very best.

Alan

Always rewarding to breath life into cobwebbed gems! Excellent production, easy-listening lyric, vivid images. If I may make one comment: I think the choice of drums could have been better, maybe a more subtle perc track..I think that would match the “quieter” nature of this track. Aside from that, really enjoyed my listen.

Beautiful, beautiful, really beautiful. One of your best, Bob and Joliz. How? No idea how, but it's wow. Effortlessly creates imagery in one's mind. The lyrics are superlative. The singing is wonderful. The musical writing is evocative. Well done - PLEASE keep creating.

Bob, Joliz, super song, fabulously sung. Love how the imagery plays over the backing track. There's a high pitched held instrument prominent at the end that sounds like a lap steel or maybe strings. Or a synth? Anyway, I love it!

Tom,

Thanks. We appreciate the kind words. I reviewed several drum tracks, but ultimately settled on this one. All in all, I'm happy with the choice, but appreciate your thoughts.

Bob, you had me at Turntable Paul Revere. Great metaphor. Another Robert Dean good 'un.

Ron,

Thanks so much - we appreciate it. That high held note at the end is produced by RT 3231. It's a great sounding guitar track.

Bob and Joliz, you two always produce outstanding music.
Bob, your story telling is second to none and Joliz adds the icing on the cake!
As usual an outstanding production.

Really nice you two!

This has kind of a Tom Waits vibe to it.

I can actually see him covering this.

Anyway, great songcraft my friend!

Your writing is like the best movies ever made, Bob. It's like, "He's got a new one out!! Wait'll ya see this one!" Man, I can see every one as a Grammy AND Academy Award presentation. Joliz is the best supporting singer in all your best shows, Bob. Your stories are always so... real, and you paint the canvass with such a strong feeling.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hi, Bob.

I agree with Rod - this lyric alone was worth the price of admission:

The DJ says the songs are coming
Like some turntable Paul Revere

Nice. smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

The background cinema held guitar and the Americana roots drums had us swaying with the windshield wipers and seeing those headlights flickering.

We’ve said it before but will say again that your writing reminds us of Pete Hamill’s writing - you take us along with the sights and sounds.

You and Joliz have a special blend — like a sibling thing.

And how cool is this:
“The DJ says the songs are coming
Like some turntable Paul Revere.”
One could spend considerable time trying to pick a favorite line out of so much goodness. smile

Excellent band and nice to read the production info.
Oh, interesting name of the town too.

Enjoyed it!

Back to geography - YAY!
It's a really cool story and arrangement though, to my ears, the drum track is redundant.
Wonderful.

Cheers

Hi Bob.

You and Joliz have really struck gold with this one.
The singing, the music, the lyrics, the arrangement are all superb.
The lyric imagery is exquisite and it really pulled me in.
I love the way that Joliz's vocals complement yours.
The two of you sound so good together.
Inside my mind, travelling along on this song was a cinematic experience.
