Haven Of Dreams Hi Folks, Hope you are all well. My "Haven of Dreams" is precisely that: a sanctuary dedicated to shutting out reality in favour of vintage music, creative rambling, and the occasional power nap. It's where I barricade myself from the world, wrestle with songwriting demons, spin ancient 78s on my wind-up gramophone, and generally embrace the pursuit of unproductive artistry. My subconscious, which clearly has a penchant for nostalgia, keeps dragging me back to the house I grew up in – a recurring dream that demanded I write a song about it. If you are kind enough to give it a spin I hope it won't put you to sleep. Lyrics on Soundcloud Tempo 88 Key D 891 piano 366 bass 3520 guitar RealDrums Nashville Brushes Ballad 703 guitar strumming 2692 Organ

Nicely done. This sounds good to me. I like songs about remembering the old days and the memories associated and you painted a great picture of this with your lyrics.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

Gorgeous song, Izzy! Super arrangement, really like the very slow fade ending. The melody is beautiful, and love the character of your voice in the upper registers. Super harmonies near the end, too.
Yeah, as the years tick by nostalgia is of increasing intrigue. Where do the years go? What memories can we cling to? Which do we have to let go? So many unresolvable riddles left to solve...
Love your tune!

Hi, Izzy. I'm really liking this! The light organ on the intro, cool piano, emotional vocals - they all sound great. Good write, too.

As twice just posted elsewhere. I can't listen to your music just now as SoundCloud won't let me listen without logging-in to the site. I've been having this issue for a couple of weeks: sometimes it simply lets my play and listen as always previously, sometimes I can't listen to the main post, but I can listen to the same post in the bottom bar, sometimes it throws up a log-in window which I can switch off and then listen, but today there is no bottom bar to click 'play' on and when I remove the log-in window it just comes back up when I try to play the main post.
Some favourite Waoist Adages: #1: Play on the Way. #13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you. #58: Bring consciousness to it. #63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made. #92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Hi Izzy! Another good one! The accompaniment to this ticked along like a clock, mimicking the time theme. I found the pause in the piano ‘riff’ to be a little confronting initially, and had to listen to it several times to work it out. To me, it sounded like the song wanted to move forwards, but being pulled back (by the piano pause in the riff) to your haven of dreams. I especially loved the ‘trickle’ of the keys through this pause on subsequent sections.
You make wonderful use of piano in your songs - I am wondering if this is your weapon of choice?
You have great word-craft, and it was very easy to visualise the setting and feeling through your words.
You used ‘we’ a few times in the song, as though the haven was a shared experience, and I was wondering if the lyrics were also looking fondly at past relationships? Your voice is suited to this type of song, but you sing with versatility across a range of genres.
Good song, lots of feeling, and very pleasing to listen to.

The play of piano and guitar followed by the pause...and then when the piano fills in that same section later. Really cool. Loving the chord progression and the kind of sweeping quality of the whole arrangement. Your voice sounds great too. The harmonies are just elevating. Beautiful.

Oh, man, I love this, Izzy, right from the attic to the rocking chair. I like the climbing progression, and that quick piano interlude is particularly tickling the music. Also particularly like the a capella measure foollowed by the piano outro. That piano is so perfect, and your vocal carries the song. Right from the beginning with that panning synth, or whatever that spacey sound is. Excellent lyrics and a good mix.

Herb, thanks so much for taking the time to listen and comment! I'm glad the nostalgia resonated with you - I guess I was aiming for a sonic sepia tone. Appreciate you saying I painted a good picture; hopefully, it didn't come off too much like Bob Ross with a six-string!😉 my best to you Izzy

Love your tune! Ron, you've absolutely made my day! "Gorgeous song" coming from you is high praise indeed, and I'm practically blushing. I'm glad you noticed the slow fade - I was hoping it would leave that lingering, slightly melancholy feeling. And your thoughts on nostalgia... spot on! It's less a warm hug and more a confusing puzzle box these days, isn't it? I appreciate you connecting with the song on that level. Thanks for wading into the unresolvable riddles with me! best to you Izzy.

I'm glad you liked the emotional vocals. I was actually just thinking about my taxes while recording, so I guess that's what you're hearing. Now that you've said the organ's cool, I'm officially required to use it in every song from now on. You've doomed me! Seriously though, appreciate you taking the time! always kind regards to you Izzy.

Chay, thanks for battling SoundCloud's digital gremlins to attempt to listen to my song. It sounds like my music is so exclusive, it requires a secret handshake and a blood sacrifice to the login gods. 😜 Hopefully, one day you'll win, and then you can tell me it was all worth it... or that I owe you a beer for the trouble. 😁 Either way, appreciate the perseverance!👍 Izzy

Andrew D Hi Andrew, Thanks so much for taking the time to listen and provide such thoughtful feedback! I'm thrilled you enjoyed it. I'm so glad you picked up on the time theme and the piano "ticking." Your interpretation of the pause in the riff is spot on - I love how you described it as being pulled back to the haven of dreams. It's fascinating to hear what resonates with different listeners; maybe all my musical choices are just my subconscious arguing with itself about the passing of time! And yes, the "trickle" was intentional, so I'm glad it landed! You're right, the piano is definitely my weapon of choice... probably because I'm terrible at hand-to-hand combat, musically or otherwise. I appreciate your kind words about the word-craft. It's always the goal to paint a picture with words, so I'm delighted you were able to visualize the setting. As for the "we" and past relationships... well, let's just say inspiration comes from everywhere, and sometimes it lingers longer than it should! Thanks again for your generous comments. It means a lot! Best Regards Izzy

'Sweeping' and 'elevating' are exactly the vibes I was aiming for, so knowing that resonated is HUGE. I'm especially glad you caught the little piano trickery – I was hoping someone would notice that! Thanks so much for taking the time to listen and offering such lovely, encouraging feedback. It's fuel for the songwriting fire! Thankyou my friend Izzy.

Coming from you, "right from the attic to the rocking chair" might be the highest compliment I've ever received. I'm so glad you appreciated the little details - that piano interlude was almost scrapped, so your "tickling the music" comment is especially gratifying. And the a capella bit was a leap of faith, so I'm thrilled it landed. Thanks for noticing the spacey synth too, I spent way too long tweaking that thing! Seriously though, thanks for the detailed listen and the encouraging words - they mean a lot.(as always) My Best To You Izzy.
