When I playback in BIAB, the instrument volumes are low. I have to use the PG Dynamics on the AUDIO Vst in order to hear the parts better.
Last night, I opened RealBand and input chords and generated RT's. The volume level was MUCH better compared to BIAB. My PC volume is set to 88.
I use the ASIO4ALL driver and was wondering why there is such a difference between the two?
Thanks,
Trax

Maybe adjust the "All Songs" output level higher in the Band-in-a-Box audio mixer and / or lower the "All" RealBand audio mixer main output so they match better. Notice the RealBand default is 100% while Band-in-a-Box's default is about 50%. ![[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]](https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=download&Number=31111&filename=Clipboard 01.jpg) ![[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]](https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=download&Number=31112&filename=Clipboard 02.jpg)

Can you tell us more about your computer? What version of Windows. What is your sound card. Do you have the same driver set for BIAB and RealBand.
I never liked ASIO4ALL. It is not ASIO at all; it’s a wrapper that looks to the program like ASIO but is actually WDM, an older standard. Unless you are using the built-in RealTec chip (which I do not recommend), then your sound card should have come with its own ASIO driver. Some of them work well with the Windows WAS driver. But tell us more.

@Jim, my mixer is from Biab 2015 and has Audio/Thru at the bottom of mixer.
@Matt. Win. 10 and Biab 2015. Realtek SC I believe is attached to the MB. I will try using the onboard SC and see if that helps.

@justin, I used to use a Presonus audio interface and it worked flawlessly with Biab. I will uninstall Asio4all.
I have a software synth (Yamaha syxg) I use for some midi patches that sound better than the Coyote and Cakewalk soft synth. Will the syxg work without Asio? Some of the syxg patches sound as good as some RTs.
I appreciate this forum because of the people who help others here.
I’m hoping to upgrade to 2025 Biab this Friday.
Thanks again,
Trax

Hi Trax,
Yes your Yamaha syxg will work but there is a high probability of latency. You may get away with using WAS, WAS is included with Windows as is MME, but my guess you will need ASIO4all until you get an audio interface (commonly called a sound card) with native ASIO drivers.
I hope this helps and good luck.

Many here like the Focusrite Scarlett line and it's very reasonably priced.
I like and used to use Focusrite but I switched to Presonus equipment because I prefer their control software. On the lower cost units of either brand, this is not an issue because they don't use/need control software because of limited inputs/outputs.

I use the ASIO4ALL driver and was wondering why there is such a difference between the two? Are you using ASIO4ALL for both BB and RB? Different drivers can cause volume differences even if using the same hardware, in particular because ASIO bypasses the Windows volume control (although fake ASIO might not do that). I tried the same song in BB2015 and RB2015 and didn't hear much difference in volume, though BB was a tad quieter. This is likely normal due to differences in how the mixers worked in each program at the time. In BB2025 and RB 2025 there is less difference. Maybe adjust the "All Songs" output level higher in the Band-in-a-Box audio mixer and / or lower the "All" RealBand audio mixer main output so they match better. Notice the RealBand default is 100% while Band-in-a-Box's default is about 50%. Correct, however they both default to "Zero". Band-in-a-Box allows you to set this fader above zero (with a built-in limiter to prevent distortion), while RealBand does not allow this (much like most DAWs). In both cases the faders should be set to zero. I never liked ASIO4ALL. It is not ASIO at all; it’s a wrapper that looks to the program like ASIO but is actually WDM, an older standard. I find that ASIO4All causes more problems than it solves, however it is very widely used. Also, ASIO was introduced in 1997 while WDM was introduced in 1999, so ASIO is technically the older standard. I have a software synth (Yamaha syxg) I use for some midi patches that sound better than the Coyote and Cakewalk soft synth. Will the syxg work without Asio? The S-YXG softsynths are very old, and as far as I can tell they are too old to be 64-bit compatible. This would mean that they won't work on 2025 versions of BB/RB.

ASIO is older? You win today’s trivia contest, Simon.

Mtrax. when you next consider getting a new usb audio interface.... check out the audient interfaces....eg audient id 4 mk 2...there are many other imterfaces in the audient range includeing multi inputs if you have a band of musicians you record with. https://audient.com/products/audio-interfaces/id4/overview/if you doubt me go on gearspace.com where thousands of studios hang out and see what people are saying. note that the mic preamps are identical to their big studio large format audio consoles that i will never afford lol. i really like audient mic preamps... many of my song vocals in my sig used the audients mic pre's. eg bankerman, pretty girl, the stallion... you be the judge. the other thing i like is the degree of software control i have over many things eg ensuring the mic pre's arent overloaded as well as being 'multi client' instead of being a one trick pony. at the very least i would suggest renting a unit from your local gear store and do your own tests. in fact the best way is to rent several interfaces from different manufacturers and test the ultra low latency and other features offered. eg the ssl units are also well regarded as are many others. nothing beats real life testing....which is what i do occasionally. seriously one cant beat getting a decent interface with great low latency asio drivers. much less hassle than other options imho. lots of audient info on the net and you tube vids. i agree with Simon re asio4all. hth/happiness. om

Back in 2015 I found the Syxg sounds superior to Coyote/Cakewalk. Also, I believe Biab then was 32 bit ?
Thanks for the information.
Track
BTW, I used to use the Tyros 1 with Biab. When I finally figured out how to connect the keyboard correctly with Biab, it sounded like listening with RT’s that we have today. There was a night vs day how Biab worked with fantastic midi patches being used on the styles. They came alive and it was like a whole new software was being used. I understood how Biab was perfect for making music/songs and instantly converting it to audio/midi files.
