I've downloaded the 200Mb update twice and both downloads go through the update instantaneously and go to finish withlout installing. bbw.exe 2010.5 shows 0 tracks in the 83-101 style picker.
Thanks for any ideas

Have you moved your Real Tracks to another drive? If there are no Real Tracks to update, it would behave like that - appear to run instantaneously.

No, bb is in C:\Program Files\bb and all previous RealTracks and RealDrums appear to be present and correct

Mus, be sure to double check the path on the install program. I noticed yours is C:\Program Files\bb where the default install path is C:\bb.

I know it might be a dumb question but did you buy the new Real Tracks 83-101? They aren't free just the program update is free and the RTs updates are free also but you need to have purchased the RTs 83-101.

Oh right, I was confused about whether you had to pay or not. You would have thought the installer might tell you.
Out of curiosity how would the program know that you'd paid for it?

The updater is intelligent; it only updates what you already have.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
