Hi.
I have noticed that many realtracks (like RT2311:Bass and 2314:Piano) play natural fifths over 7alt chords. I was expecting the fifths to be altered, either flat or sharp. Actually I see natural fifths also over 7+ chords. Is this normal or a bug? From my limited testing the MIDI styles are more prone to play the altered fifth over these chords.

I’ll have to audition those styles to test, but you are correct about the theory.
An altered 7th chord by definition has neither a natural fifth nor a natural ninth. Likewise a + chord, an augmented chord, by definition means the fifth is raised a half step.
I’m not surprised the MIDI is more accurate. It is created by algorithm and there’s no reason for it not to be right if correctly programmed. RealTracks, though, are snippets of actual live music recordings, so there could be two common explanations. First, the performer just didn’t play that chord. Second, some index is wrong and a patch to the program is needed. I’ve had that happen and when I reported it, a patch was soon issued. So, we need to test and if it’s wrong, report it.
One self-help you should try whenever something doesn’t work correctly is Options, Preferences, Return to Factory Settings, Most. I don’t think that will help here, but it can’t hurt to try.

Thank you so much Matt, for the kind words and your helpful reply. Armed with the confidence that I have the theory right I will proceed to make some bug reports on the styles and tracks that I have issues with, after verifying with the factory settings. It sounds promising that they have a history of patching similar things.

You’re welcome. I have to say, this is very rare, but it has happened. In one case, one track dropped out when there was a specific chord, a mMaj7. I recall another where it played a minor seventh on a major ninth chord, something like that.
And there’s always the possibility I’m completely wrong.
