Hi, in our jam group (where I often use BIAB to fill in for missing players) I have a situation where I am using a few simple jazz tunes at the start of our playing to set the PA mix. This is in a restaurant so it needs to be done during a performance (it is kind of a performance jam). All tunes have a melody played at the start and the end as usual. So I am having us rotate our three solos each rather than play them contiguous so I get three shots at setting the mix when I am not doing a solo. Let me give a picture so it is clear.
Melody-1, (My solo1, person2 solo1), (My solo2, person2 solo2), (My solo3, person2 solo3), Melody-2.
So that is fine. However on one of the songs I am the only one doing a solo which means I need to have BIAB do a solo to entertain the people listening while I set the mix. So is it possible to generate a BIAB solo for person2 as displayed above? Last night I watched the start of a video about generating a melody. Is that the same as BIAB creating solos? I am asking because if it is creating a melody it most likely won't be different every time (not really a solo). I guess what I am hoping for is some way to make it as easy as possible so I can swap it in and out quickly (maybe by muting the solo track when I want it to be a real person). I am guessing it is not possible to generate a new solo every time in the above format and maybe I need to have BIAB generate a melody for the specific repeats for person 2. Can I even do that? How about using the specific bar mutes to mute the soloist track at specific bars and bring it back in as normal when I want it to solo. Might that be the only way? Can I adjust the number of chorus repeats and have the pattern propagate out?
Do any experts have any thoughts on how to pull this unique one off?
Thanks, John

John, My initial feeling is that that should be able to be done. Can you give me a bar number and chorus number map so that I can get a better idea of what you want. for example... Chorus 1: bars 1-8, my solo; bars 16-32 BIAB solo Chorus 2: bars 1-8, my solo; bars 16-32 BIAB solo etc. Regards, Noel

Okay Noel, One chorus will typically be 12 bars. On the map below each line is a chorus (8 choruses in total). Melody would be played my myself. Thanks, John.
bars 01-12 melody-1 bars 13-24 my solo bars 25-36 BIAB solo bars 37-48 my solo bars 49-60 BIAB solo bars 61-72 my solo bars 73-84 BIAB solo bars 85-96 melody-2
Update: I managed to do one using the Soloist button and the top option "Add best RealTracks soloist to soloist track" then picking one of the Pat Martino filters. It does the job with a bit of work. I just muted/set-to-normal the soloist track wherever I wanted to make it fit the map. So I guess the question is "Can it be done more easily?".

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
