Hi!

I'd like to play over the jazz standard BLUE BOSSA but I can't find a way to input a m7b9 chord.

This is not included in BIAB ???

Aren't you wrong? Didn't you mean a chord like Dm7b5?

Ya, Likely a typo.

Dm7b5 to G7 to Cm is common in many fake books for BlueBoss. However the substitution of the G7 with G7b9 is often seen. It is a nice jazzy guitar chord! I suspect that may be what the OP was indicating. In this case BIAB does have all these chords.

BB was in my play set back in the day. grin
I did a cover recording with a fellow named George Bellas who some may recognize as a big time talent. As close as I ever got to the big time. crazy

A m7b5 chord is in BiaB's chord arsenal.

A m7b9 chord is not. Weird?

Dm7b5 is probably the chord they are looking for.

A quick google search for Am7b9 (I picked "A" arbitrarily) shows this:

**************************************************************************************

Am7(b9) Guitar Chord
Am7(b9) Guitar Chord. 4 chord voicings, charts and sounds. Chord notes and structure: A Bb C E Ab (R m2 m3 5 7).

Am7(b9) Chord
Standard name: Am(maj7)b9
AKA: Am(+7)b9; Am(+7)b7/9; Am(maj7)b7/9; Am(+7)b7/9;

***************************************************************************************

Maybe one of the AKA's would work.
Good luck!

Lloyd, I believe your Am7b9 is notated wrong. It should be A Bb C E G

Here is the piano version of Am7b9:

If the A is in the bass wouldn't it be Am7b9?

If the C is in the bass wouldn't it be C7add6.

Same notes different labels!

Either way it works!

I believe it will be a half diminished chord as my learned colleagues suggest, but the mMaj7b9 chord should be a Neapolitan Minor and the sound is very weird and difficult to resolve, so I would steer away from that chord. Nobody plays that scale on standards, maybe Brecker, Branford or Trane...

It could be just the phrygian chord:
the III chord in any major tune and the
V chord in the relative minor.
Mostly it is notated as plain minor or as sus4b9 or as the slash chord F/E, where the triad F is played over E in the bass. I have never seen it notated as mb9, not in the realbooks, not in the New Real Book...
Angelomusic, can you upload the sheet music? There’s a lot of players here who are willing to help out.

Boys, please, there's only 12 notes in a scale, don't mess around with that.
And as Woody Guthry said: More than three chords in a song is showing off anyway.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
