Good morning,

When I am testing a song and changing styles, it may go through a number of iterations before it's right - this includes fiddling with the mix. During that process, I may want to return all the mixer settings (panning, levels, reverb, etc.) to the default or factory settings for that particular style.

So my question is twofold:

1. Is it possible to return the mixer settings to a default state?
2. Am I thinking of this in the wrong way and style settings and mixer settings are independent of one another?

I am using BIAB version 2018 Build 267

Thank you for your assistance.

My methods for doing this maybe different to others but if I didn’t have a DAW to do the mixing I would be inclined to save the song, then make changes and save as a new file. It is fairly easy to delete unwanted versions. The issue doing it this way is you might have a track that turns out really nice for whatever reason and you don’t want it regenerated (you could always freeze that track I guess).

I have a DAW that I import stuff into for mixing etc. So what I do is set everything to flat levels and up the middle then export the tracks as individual .wav files. I might regenerate the tracks playing with them I might have another track I like which I then export and so forth.

I might end up with a number of tracks with the same Realtrack or instrument. I will then comp the track back to one. This way I don’t lose the good bits and usually end up with a track I like. I often take a part from one place in the song and move it somewhere else. For example a few bars in one verse might sound better in a different verse. There are endless iterations and opportunities.

My thoughts
Tony

Yes, saving your song is the best thing to do, since that also saves your custom mixer settings in the song. If you freeze your tracks, you can also save the specific arrangements generated for each instrument.

Each style has default mixer settings for pan, reverb, and tone. To load the defaults, you can reload the style from the StylePicker. By default all volumes in (most) styles are set to "90". We adjust the levels of the instruments in the style so that they are well balanced at "90". If you've changed the volume and saved your song, reloading the style won't change your volumes back to 90, however you can easily set them back to 90 all at once by holding down the command key while double-clicking on any volume slider.

Another thing you could do is, before you start making adjustments, right-click on the "Master" track at the top of the screen and select 'Save Current Mix as Default'. Later, you can Load Default Mix to get the settings back.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
