My friend Tater Totts was reading the Band in a Box forum post about using the Circle of Fifths and he just couldn't understand what was so hard about it all so he wrote this song to explain how it works in Nashville.

The Circle of Fifths, by Tater Totts. First song on his channel.

Circle of Fifths
Performed by Tater "Nashville" Totts

CH

Got a circle of fifths
Around the front yard
Got a circle of empty fifths
Around the back yard too
I’ll keep going around this
Circle of fifths
Until I drink my mind
Off of you
Got a Circle of Fifths
In every room in the house
And baby it’s the best that I can do
And I’ll keep going around this
Circle of fifths
Until I drink my mind off of you

V1

Well I flunked out of school in the first grade
Cause I still couldn’t add
2 plus 2
But I didn’t need no schoolin’ that much anyways
I never got the hang of sniffing glue
But I reckon there’s good money money made in truckin’
Til you pull into the truck stop from hell
That’s where I met you
It was my first mistake
Cause I could smell the liquor in your hair

CH

Got a circle of fifths
Around the front yard
Got a circle of empty fifths
Around the back yard too
I’ll keep going around this
Circle of fifths
Until I drink my mind
Off of you
Got a Circle of Fifths
In every room in the house
And baby it’s the best that I can do
And I’ll keep going around this
Circle of fifths
Until I drink my mind off of you

V2

Well I only got one question ‘bout the liquor stores
What time do they open in your town
You know I got to get there
Early as I can
Cause there’s a woman that kicked my heart around
I should have known when I pulled into that truck stop
I should have known when I kissed her
And got a whiff of that smell
I should have known that that woman was the devil
And she would drag me right straight down into hell

CH

Got a circle of fifths
Around the front yard
Got a circle of empty fifths
Around the back yard too
I’ll keep going around this
Circle of fifths
Until I drink my mind
Off of you
Got a Circle of Fifths
In every room in the house
And baby it’s the best that I can do
And I’ll keep going around this
Circle of fifths
Until I drink my mind off of you

Great minds think alike.

I just commented on a similarly titled post about some bottles.....

Good song David.

David,

Oh, my!!!

Is there nothing sacred anymore?

Somewhere in this is some pretty clever writing and production, I must say.

Funny stuff. Tater is a legend!

Too much theory for me.

Too much whiskey for Tater.

Too much banjo for anyone's good.

Too much fun being had somewhere in Carolina.

Tater is becoming a sort of musical legend/hero here on the forum! He's obviously faced some tough stuff along the way! I hope he can hold it together and keep bringing us these clever tunes!! Thanks, Torrey

Thanks Herb! Like I tell everybody, Herb Hartley taught me everything I know about the circle of fifths.

And I just leave it at that.

Curt,

I know, that Tater is really obnoxious. He keeps busting into my studio and recording stuff.

I tried taking out a restraining order but it didn't work.

Floyd,

I shared your comments with Tater and he said that whereas he had learned everything he knew about writing a classic country song from you, he was surprised that you didn't understand the Pure T genius in his new song. He said he was pretty sure that one day you would see the light though, seeing as you are such a regular and steady church goin' fellar.

How did I not see this one coming... sick

Congrats (?) to Tater on the first song on his channel.

Fun song. May the circle be unbroken!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

You're friend did a great job on this smile The melodies on the banjo here are unreal, and the lyricism is fun and witty. Plus, the vocal performance is really strong here too. Whoever did the mixing also nailed it.

Tater Totts killed this one - thanks for sharing!

It great to know that Ron White's son takes after his father! (If you didn't catch this watch the end of the first Redneck Comedy Tour).

Lots of fun here Tater. Your circle of fifths is a lot more fun than the one I studied in school!

Two thumbs up.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
