Steve,
Wonderful job. I really enjoyed it. The accompaniment really gives nice contrast to your smooth vocals.

Paul,

Thanks very much! Glad you like it.

Bob,

As always, thanks! This one did take a little more of a "pop" turn. A little different for me. Glad you like it.

Josie,

Again, thank you very much! Yea, I do hate summer colds. It seems like they take the longest to get over - tough on the voice! I really appreciate your kind words.

Glendon,

Thank you so much for your comment! I am glad the tune is sticking in your head. I hope that is a good thing! Good to hear from you.

SpaceDog,

Thanks for your uplifting words! Glad you enjoyed it!

Thank all of you for taking the time to listen and post!

Steve

I liked this Steve. A high grade pop song with performances to match.

In particular, you have a clever and consistent lyric and a good tune.

I have just one or two reservations, if you ever plan to do a rework…

I wonder about the piano intro which sounds a bit like it is from a different track

hmm the link at 1:33 doesn’t work for me (here I concur with Paul above - it's just a little cheesy!)

Would there be a way of lightening up the mix just a little at 2:25 for the little gtr solo. Here I find it is having a job to cut through. Maybe bring down the org here?

While the structure is good, I wonder if you could get away with having 1 fewer reps of the chorus at the end. Not sure that the last one adds much.

All the best,

Marc

Hi Marc,

Thanks so much for your comments. I just redid a mix this morning, and had already addressed a couple of the things you brought up.

I personally like the piano intro. (But if a major record label wants to sign me up and wants to remove the piano, I will let them after their check clears )

I'm guessing your are referring to the brass at 1:33. I read Paul's comments, and I guess the "cheesy" is referring to his "mice song" comment. Very clever! Now I don't know if Paul's comment was a misspell, or a freudian slip! lol At any rate, I do like cheese, so the brass stays (again, unless the above mentioned record label removes it).

I did bring out the guitar solo some when I did the remix this morning.

Haven't made any decision about removing a chorus rep at the end. It only has the chorus twice, and to remove one may make it too abrupt, I don't know. (I will play around with it.)

But seriously, I do appreciate your comments. I really appreciate you taking the time to listen closely enough to have these suggestions.

Even after this remix this morning, this is not the "final mix". I will do that in a few weeks when I get ready to do whatever I end up deciding to do with the song. I do tend to play around with a song quite a bit before "finishing" it.

Thanks again!

Steve

THanks Steve for taking these comments in the right spirit.

I prefer to offer specific comments on what I hear, rather than just giving a general appreciation
as I feel that this approach is more constructive.

In pretty well all the songs I post on at this forum,we are not talking about 'correction' as much as making what is already good even better.

It goes without saying that mine is just one opinion and is far less important than that of the writer/musician!

Have a great weekend (Eurovision song contest for us over the pond this weekend!)

Hi Steve,

Your songwriting, singing and producing skills are exceptional. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. It's been a little while since I've heard you work and I'm stunned by how much more professional it sounds now. It was always top notch and I'd have never thought it possible that it good get any better than what it was. It has though!

All the best,
Noel

Marc,

Not a problem at all. If nothing else, when we are given suggestions, it opens us up to different ways of thinking about our songs, and that's a good thing. Even if I don't make suggested changes, I have been prompted to expand my horizons!

I hope the Eurovision song contest went well!

Noel,

Thanks so much for taking the time to listen! I am glad you like what you heard. We are all on a journey, hopefully headed the right direction! A preacher I know frequently says "I haven't arrived yet, but I have left." I think that is true for all of us.

Thanks again for your very kind words! Hope things are well down under!

Hi Steve,

I really think you have done a great job with this song.

I appreciate how difficult mixing a song (for other ears rather than your own) can be.

Your song comes across clean and clear.

As you know I have been experimenting with my vocals and just wondered if you had given a thought to perhaps doubling your vocal and offsetting the track a few ticks for the chorus or part thereof.

Best regards

George

Hi George,

Thanks so much for your comments! I appreciate your suggestion about doubling the vocal and offsetting the track. That's exactly what I did on this one on the choruses. Apparently I was too subtle with it. I am always concerned about using too much effect on my lead vocals. I will give it another listen when I get around to doing a more final mix. Good suggestion, though.

Thanks again for taking the time to listen and comment.

Have a great day!

Steve

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
