Hi all,

I took part in another remix contest. (http://www.remixcomps.com/contest/kan-waken-remix-contest) This time the arrangement was so good I nearly gave up. I couldn’t make it better than the original just different. It was a lot of fun to work with this song. From the downloaded stems I only used the drums, percussion and vocals.
Singer: Kristianne Bautista
Strings: Me with Garritan Orchestra
Bass: Me with Trilian

RT1270_Guitar, Electric, Rhythm PopUpliftSyncMuted Ev16 120
RT1643_Sax, Tenor, Soloist JazzFunkBreezy Ev16 075 (Bluesy)
It's a pity they have no site where you can listen to remixes by the other contestants.
I hope you enjoy.

Wow! That original song really is good! Very "Peter Gabriel" musically!

(I'm a sucker for highly produced music that stops short of becoming electronica and retains its rock/indie roots)

Moving on to YOUR remix:
Wow, this is just BEAUTIFUL, Guenter! What a great concept being able to take other people's tracks and transfer them into your own image and likeness!

I think your version has more structure than the original which became somewhat ethereal in its zeal to take advantage of all the great reverb!

I love this singer's vocal presentation and style.. you really did an EXCELLENT job of surrounding it with a complementary background. It turned out very classy and elegant.. I can see it being featured in a movie. I especially like the chords at the word "reflections"

The bass you used is also particularly good! It catches the listener's attention right away (at least it did mine)

Hi Guenter,

One of these days I'm going to take a shot at a remix contest. It seems mighty challenging and it happens often that, if I hear some songs, I hear other things.
Probably can't compete with you. Again this is a great remix. You keep on remixing, I'll keep relistening smile

This is really fabulous!. The mix is really tops, and I really liked the balance and levels. That bass works so well. Overall I's say you nailed it!

I love the vocalist sound, I have not heard the original, but what you did here sounds outstanding; thanks for sharing!

Guenter, love the bass. This is amazing. I am absolutely sure you should be winning these contests. I cannot imagine anyone is putting up work better than this. It is very cool the way you have carved out a niche of your very own using BIAB as part of these fabulous creations. The mix and production is of such a high quality, no one can touch this. Bravo, Tom

Guenter,

This is spectacular from every angle. The bass is brilliant but then so is everything else. There is no "BIAB sound" in here at all. To me, this sounds like it's professionally produced through and through.

I don't know how anyone could get a better sound than this.

All the best,
Noel

Guenter,

Both versions are really nice but yours has the edge.
you creativity knows no bounds. You must spend hours carting your masterpieces.

As Noel wrote there is no BIAB sound. It sounds professionally recorded with real session musicians!!

marvelous

Awesome!! (not a word we often use)

I have but the slightest inkling of the
skill and time to do this. But enough
to genuinely appreciate and, most of all,
enjoy the effort.

Congrats on a wonderful production.

WOW. What a TRANSFORMATION.

Listening to the original, for me, was 5 and a half minutes of total boredom. I barely caught any lyrics - partly because I kept trying to click on the wav to make it jump ahead some (it would not) so it would be over. It droned on and on and on and on...

Your version absolutely blew it away in the first few seconds.
When the vocal began, I couldn't believe it could be the same vocal. Beautiful opening. The production made the vocal "the star" - perfect support. Dynamic - making it interesting the entire time... Don't know how much time you spent getting that sax in there, but, man! it is in the pocket! The voices behind it are a great touch.

Had to listen a number of times. S P E C T A C U L A R.

You should do MORE than win. They need to track you down to produce their album. Seriously.

Hi Guenter,

This is really great! What is a "remix contest?" What is it that is getting "remixed?" Please explain, but whatever it is, it led to a very cool outcome. I hear Marienthal's solo licks, which you've managed to cut up into a good solo. Wow!

Dean

PS Did you win this contest too?

Guenter,

I always enjoy your work. (I just wish my current schedule for the past several months allowed me more time to listen to all the fine work done around here.)

This is really good work. Pretty much all been said. You did an outstanding job!

It's all great Guenter but especially LOVE that bass and her voice. The way you mixed the whole thing - fantastic!

I'm with FJ, they should hire you.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
