I always enjoy using BB to create a new version of a well known song, you learn a lot about production and the capabilities of the program. This one was fun to do, I even made a slapstick for the crack sound. Bob Brigham is singing.

I am pretty sure if it hasn't been up there that long you can delete your own post and the thread will disappear along with it.

"Since this post is the first post in a topic and already has replies it may not be deleted. "

You know, it might be fun to have a separate topic for cover songs. You can do amazing things re-interpreting stuff with BB

No worries, Will. I will come visit you in prison when I go there to see Mom on Christmases. We'll have turkey and pistols carved out of wood*.

See... if you simply posted this on YouTube everything would be lovely. Apparently a cover on YT isn't a violation of the rules.

Nice job though. It sounds a bit too stiff to my ears, doesn't have that energetic feel of the original.

One of my favorites from Billy Idol.... along with Rebel Yell.

Maybe the rules have changed but not updated? Someone posted a cover of "You send me" last week and a couple PG staff had favorable comments, including Peter.

I prefer hearing original songs myself, but nice job on the cover!

"The songs must be originals, no copyrighted or "cover" songs. You must have all of the rights to the songs."

I think this is the first sentence in the Song Forum Post.

My first thought was that PG Music is adhering to this because it does not want to face multi-million dollar lawsuits, and thus adding a section where people can do covers is not the point--the point is PG Music not wanting to get sued. So no covers means no covers is the way I read it.

In that vein, I think it makes it somewhat confusing if people post "licensed" commercial covers even if they have the very best of intentions and mean no harm--perhaps it signals others they can do the same. But if you do it without a license--look out.

It really boils down to the law. BMI has 1099 contractors crawling every coffee house and pub in the land terrifying people. If one person plays Puff the Magic Dragon without a license, they can and will sue for tens of thousand of dollars.

It is serious business.

The comparison to YouTube should be avoided--it is still risky. YouTube has always had a strange, cozy relationship with labels wherein they will simply send you a warning then paste an advertisement on your video if you do a cover.

BUT, that does not change the law. The law is the law.

I think PG Music is just abiding by the law which is their right.

Will, just put your cover on YouTube, post a link in the BIAB on YouTube forum and you're good to go. The worst that can happen is they'll take it down but most likely they'll just stick an ad on it.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
