Hi folks.
I want to get inexpensive collection of sound effects.... I know there is plenty of stuff online, but I would feel more comfortable of having a small collection of 1000-2000 sound effects on computer. I am not looking for something extraordinary, but a small balanced collection of live effects...

Many years ago, I picked up a effects CD set by Canadian company Madacy.... 4 CDs, 400+ effects, now only 2 are working. Madacy released a CD with 1000 effects (MP3 format)in early 2000s, but I can not find that CD anywhere. Company went to sleep about 10 years ago.

There are tons of used CD libraries of big name companies from some years back available at very reasonable price, but I think, most of them are Audio CDs, not Wav or MP3. I seen some prices of newer libraries that are totally insane, not looking for something like that smile

Ideally balanced collection of common "live" sounds (not for electronic music, not loops), similar to Madacy in WAV or MP3 format, hopefully with in-house interface for searching / browsing. I do not mind if the library is 5-10 years young.

Would appreciate advice.

Thank you,
Misha.

Misha, I don't have collections of sound effects but when I want one I use

Free sound

Also here is a site that lists the best sound effects' software:

Top effect software

Google/bing either free sound effects, or sound effects and you will find a ton of them, some free, some freeware and some for purchase.

How good they sound and what you want are personal choices so you will have to give a listen to determine if a sound effect or a sound effect package is what you need/want.

Good luck

PS - When you get your effects be sure to make a backup.

Yeah... just go and get one when you need it. It's less work and uses up less space on the computer

I guarantee you that 99.9% of them will never be used and will simply use up valuable space if they are waves.

Thank you for replies!

I do not consider myself to be a pack rat, but things like effects, I prefer to have it as a "hard copy".
Some good things just tend to disappear at times. For example, years ago there was a good compilation of effects by Sony. Nature, animals, household, cars, industrial etc. I believe they sold these assets to Magix and that wonderful company just decided to stop selling them for some reason. I do not believe that Sony effects would be widely available for free...

I inclined to find a used set of Sony effects, which are, if I remember correctly were pretty good. If you search, you can still find some original box sets very cheap. 2-3 gigs of used space would not make much difference to me, but that way I will have consistent library that I, with time will navigate with ease.

Was hoping that somebody would suggest something similar to Sony Effects.

Thank you,
Misha.

Maybe you can find something from these effects CDs:

https://www.walmart.com/search/?query=sound%20effects

Also don't forget that you can DL a bunch of free sound effects then burn them to a CD.

Mario, thanks. My reason for this post was to get ideas from the people who actually used a particular balanced and consistent library in the past...and that could recommend something from experience.
I have seen some used Sony libraries floating around. I think I will just go with one of them. At least I know what I will be getting smile

Chris, thank you!
yes, I have seen this library. Actually it was my choice #2 after Sony. The problem is, a complicated copyright notice that did not sit well with me: "personal, educational, or research purposes".

https://freetousesounds.com You can buy the whole library for $15.

There is also https://www.pond5.com/
I don't know how I ended up in the fart section https://www.pond5.com/music/1/fart.html but enjoyed listening to Jingle Bells. LOL

The soundbible.com could be interesting too, as well as https://www.zapsplat.com/sound-effect-categories/

I could spend hours listening to all these grin

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
