Hi team.

My understanding that it is common for people who own Audiophile package, to use "Ultrapack" to make arrangement and then switch to external hard drive to output the files, pointing BIAB to "custom" Rt&Rd locations. BIAB does not save that path link. So every time you need to navigate in both menus to specific folders. Please make "remember last location" even if check mark: "use custom location" is un-ticked. So I (and other members who use it, do not navigate each time to specific folders in both RT & RD...

BIAB remembers the link if you check/uncheck custom folders while the program is running, as soon as you restart it, it forgets those path links.

Even better, a single button that switches from common to custom locations and back for both RT and RD smile

Thanks.

Interesting idea.

Common? I’m not sure. I don’t have two active versions of the program; I have the Audiophile program on an internal SSD drive, and the RealTracks and RealDrums on a fast internal hard drive.

I run patches on that setup all the time, but every once in awhile I plug in and patch the supplied PG Music USB drive. This requires, as you say, remembering and switching drive assignments.

Maybe in Preferences we could specify drive locations for everything (for both main and secondary setups). Then specify main or secondary on the install.

This would be preferable to having to navigate to the Custom folder in Preferences for both RealTracks and RealDrums.

Matt, I just mentioned specific workflow.
The essence of the request is that so BIAB saves "custom path" links.

..and maybe.... one button that switches from common to custom location for both. Should work in any scenario. For example if you RD is always in one location, but RT in two you can specify common location to be same as custom for RD and 2 separate locations for RT and whenever single button is used for switching it will always go to single drum location, but will change path to RT.

Oh yes, I understand. I'm just speculating on how best to do it. If they implemented your suggestion, that would be helpful.

I was just thinking that we now have to drill down to change this info, which is the kind of thing I expect to be readily available in Preferences.

Or do you want this option on the Install?

Misha,

I agree... +1

I use the workflow you mentioned. That is, work with the hard-drive wma installation until the song is completed and then generate the wav files using the Audiophile USB drive \Realtracks and \Drums.

This morning....

1. I started BIAB

2. re-directed Realtracks and Realdrums to my Audiophile USB

3. generated and played a song

4. deactivated "Use custom folders..." so that the drums and Realtracks would use my hard-drive (wma) installation

5. generated and played a song (BIAB had not been closed at any point in time)

6. went back into the Realtrack and Realdrums preferences and the USB drive paths were still listed and grayed out. All I had to do was activate the "Use custom folders..." option again to access the USB drive

7. Now I deactivated "Use custom folders..." so that the program ran using the wma audio files

8. Exit BIAB

9. Restarted BIAB -- the grayed out paths were now gone

From this, it seems that BIAB will remember the path for the USB drive Realtracks and Realdrums as a user switches between the USB drive and the computer hard-drive paths for the length of a BIAB session. Once BIAB is closed, though, the paths are forgotten.

This seems to indicate that PG Music are nearly "there" and all that has to happen is for them to preserve the grayed out USB path between BIAB sessions when "Use custom folder..." is deactivated.

Regards,
Noel

Noel, Matt
Thank you for listening and supporting this post.

I feel this relates to a deeper discussion on workflow. As I mentioned, in a more convenient way, this should happen in one button operation, so as to some other things that are hidden in various menus.

Ideally, I would like to see 4-6 user assignable buttons in front. Meaning that person should be able to replace stock buttons, majority of which is rarely utilized by a single user, to something useful and specific for their workflow.

For me, some of the things would be useful as a "custom" buttons in front interface:

1)Switch Audiophile / WMA locations
2)Render as individual WAV files centered and dry
And most likely others, that I can't think from the top of my head.

Many modern software titles have that option.
And if they do not have a direct assignable button, it is done as "action" buttons, where software generates a script of which buttons you press and what values you enter in order and creates a single button operation.

+1.

I have no use for multiple storage paths but understand others do. A powerful program like Band-in-a-Box needs the capability to match multiple workflow arrangements.

I agree with Jim but will also give a +1 for multiple workflows.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

+1, remembering custom folders should be a standard feature (like in any other Windows program), not a wishlist item.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
