So is the wav file you drag in empty for the first 28 bars ? If you are just dragging the tracks into Reaper you would be best to just drag them from the main Biab app.
Thank you for your reply. For example, in a 32 bar BIAB song
The wave tracks dragged in are complete as well as the song sheet being complete in the BIAB VST. No gaps or empty bars.
When I press play in Reaper, the song starts in Reaper at bar 1 and plays the BIAB WAVs properly.
If I generate the tracks in BIAB VST (and not drag any of the BIAB WAVs), when I press play in Reaper, the BIAB VST jumps to bar 29 and starts, instead of bar 1.
If I press Play in BIAB VST, the song does start at bar 1 in BIAB VST.
So triggering play in Reaper causes the BIAB VST to start at bar 29 of a 32 bar song. I have tried this on a different song, the same thing happens but the Reaper start causes the BIAB VST chord sheet to jump to bar 22 to start.
I want to be able to record a guitar track in Reaper but follow the chord sheet in the VST.
Not sure why it's starting on 29, you have got a Sync offset you can try setting to -28 ?
What you are describing should not be happening. I can only suspect it is a Reaper setting which is causing the start of playback at Bar 29 instead of Bar 1. Reaper can be set to start playback from any bar. Check your Reaper Project Settings.
Thanks for the replies. Reaper Start Measure is set to start at 1
Setting the Sync Bar Offset to 29 now allows Reaper start to sync BIAB VST. So at least I can use this for now.
The problem is that every song will have to have a different offset.
In addition, it seems that when I engage Reapers Metronome, no matter what I set Count-in Measures to in Reaper, it no longer properly syncs at start. There is a lag of 1 to 3 measures before BIAB starts. I have tried this with 1 and 2 measures in Reaper, and adjusting the BIAB Sync Bar offset up and down by 1.
So the best I can do is not use a count-in measure but at least I can now jam using the BIAB VST.
I purchased BIAB a couple of years ago when the VST was first introduced and felt like I was beta testing it, so I haven't touched it until I purchased the 2023 version a couple of days ago. I am hoping that the current problem is fixable on my system.
What you are saying sounds crazy. Can you tell us what version of BIAB and the BIAB VST you have? Also can you upload the BIAB file (.mgu) so we can test?
As an update, I spoke to the Live Chat and in order to get close to syncing, I had to set both Reaper and BIAB properties to Run As Admin (Windows 10).
Although this got me very close, I later found I need to have Reaper's Play cursor starting on Bar 2 (with the Reaper's Start Measure set to 1) and when I hit Play on Reaper, BIAB immediately jumps to Bar 2 and stays in sync. At the end of the BIAB Song, both will loop to Bar 1 and stay in sync for multiple loops. There does seem that BIAB VST is late by a 1/8 note or so, especially noticeable on very slow-tempo songs.
However, if I have Reaper's play cursor at Bar 1 and press Play, BIAB starts out of sync and the BIAB Sync Bar Offset just makes it worse so it is set to 0.
Not the end of the world for what I need but still not ideal.
Hi gwp99! Would it be possible for you to upload some screenshots or (better yet) a screen recording of the problem? I have never heard of such behaviour in the plugin so it would be helpful for me to see your setup and process in order to try and reproduce/fix the problem on my end. You could attempt to upload the content here or email it to me directly at aguy@pgmusic.com.
I am glad you got Adar to check into this. I do understand workflow using BIAB, BIAB-VST and Reaper is important to getting it all working smoothly. Also the fact that BIAB always likes to put those two bar lead-in clicks which are not always needed. So I can see where the synch may be an issue at times. But I can tell you with my workflow this has never been a problem.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
