WHAT YOU MIGHT HAVE BEEN

"It's not too late to be what you might have been"
One day several years ago I saw the above quote on a sign in front of a church and it made a big impact on me. I also thought, I have to use that in a song. Well, here it is! I used this line in one of my first song posts in this forum many years ago, but I felt it was time to give it another go. I realize that thought doesn't apply to everyone, but it certainly does apply to some of us! I was all over the map trying to settle on a style of music for the backing, but an exploration of styles in BIAB soon gave me some needed inspiration! To me it's sort of an R&B sound but you can correct me if it's another genre! My musical brethren, it's getting harder to try to do these right! Singing is much more difficult now, especially harmony parts, but I gave it my best effort! Thanks for the listen! TB

BIAB
Drums - Southern Pop 8's (I didn't really like the snare sound here, but the groove fit the feel of the song better than anything else I could find)
Bass - 2524 &2260
Piano - 2906 Electric Vitage Rhythm Bluesy Pop
Guitar- 2904 & 2905
Organ - 686 B3 Background Pop

Me

Guitar - Rhythm panned R, Lead solo and fills

What You Might Have Been

Hey you, you're looking cast down
If you want a change start where you are
They're talking 'bout you all around town
It's so sad they really don't know your heart
You're thanking God to see that a new day has begun
You're saying help me get things right for once
Before the day is done, before it is done

Oh if you could go back in time again
And take those chances that you missed
And finish what's undone
Though the wheels still turn
The pendulum it swings
Believe it's not too late for you now to be
To be what you might have been

Life's been a long road to where you are now
Time for change has surely come around
Pick up the pieces of your life on the floor
Then the darkness will fade
And hope will be restored
Somehow you feel you've missed the plan
Written for you
It's getting late and wonder now
What can you do, what can you do

Oh if you could go back in time again
To take those chances that you missed
And finish whats undone
Though the wheels still turn
The pendulum it swings
Believe it's not too late for you now to be
To be what you might have been

Don't turn away from whom
There's nothing you can hide
Leave you past far behind
And then the darkness
In your mind will fade away
Listen hear Him say

Oh if you could go back in time again
To take those chances that you missed
And finish whats undone
Though the wheels still turn
The pendulum it swings
Believe it's not too late for you now hear me

Oh you can't go back in time again
To take those chances that you missed
And finish whats undone
Though the wheels still turn
The pendulum it swings
Believe it's not too late for you now to be
To be what you might have been

Torrey...well, first off the vocals are stellar...whether you struggled or not the harmonies are spot-on...I am amazed at the recovery of your vocal abilities given what you've been through my friend...the song is everything it should be...your musical sensitivities, musicianship, style and production are always tasteful and filled with the right choices...the message is positive and true and the genre (whatever it is?) matches the upbeat "gospel" of what you're saying...the style and tempo we use are the palate we paint our messages on and I think you chose the correct ones here! we've been waiting a while to hear your songs again!

Torrey, It's amazing how listening to the different styles available in BIAB leads to inspiration, eh? Having said that, there is great prosody here, meaning the hook and lyrics match the feel of the style very well. Excellent job …and advice within!

Torrey, it is sooo good to hear some of your stuff again. I've missed your music. You did another great job here, as usual. Anybody unaware of the physical problems you've had to face would never guess it. This top notch. I love the title/hook and that chorus is fantastic. I don't know what I'd call the genre, other than "just right."

Torrey, just a great song! Love the vocals and the fabulous, breezy backing track. Your guitar work is quite fine, too! The jazzy vibe reminds me of Steely Dan without the snarky lyrics. As much as I love the shear musicality of this song, I love the message even more. Fantastic song in every way!

Hi Torrey.
I sometimes wonder that myself. But then, it could have ended up badly.

You always have good, punchy mixes and this is another great sound.

Hi Torrey,

Like all the songs I've heard from you, the choruses are always your strong parts.
They sound very catchy. This song is no different.
The lyrics are a bit long, but you have a lot to sing about, that's true.
I'm a bit worried what you wrote about your vocal problems. I hope I misunderstood, because there is nothing wrong with what I heard.
Very nice song!

Hans

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
