Sorrow, Longing and Depressive NightsThis track can be described as "A lament of grumpy old men in a nursing home called Who Cares". Original Finnish version was written 5 years ago, at that time I thought the song should be funky blues, but when I started to work on the English version with Synthesizer V vocalists, I immediately noticed that they require a more straightforward rock version. So I re-arranged it and here is the result. Just having fun with synth voices and great selection of rock instrument in BIAB. I hope you don't mind another depressing song from my vaults Loop: DrumKit Classic Beats\Rock - Ballad OpenHat-Snare 2-bar ev8.wav RealDrums: ModCountry16ths^02-a:Closed hat, Sync-kick , b:Ride, Sync-kick RealTracks: 3586: Bass, Electric, NashvilleRadio8thsB Ev 100 2935: Acoustic Guitar Rhythm FolkPulse8thsFintan 3927: Guitar, Electric, Rhythm AltRockGrittyChugging8thsHard Ev 070 1688: Guitar, Electric, Rhythm PopPromiseGritty8s Ev16 100 1719: Guitar, Electric, Rhythm TexasBluesRockStraightSol Ev 120 3349: Guitar, Electric, Soloist HazyRock Ev16 095 677: Guitar, Electric, Rhythm RockBritDriving Ev 085 3638: Guitar, Electric, Background DublinPopMagSpacey Ev 120 Vocals: Synthesizer V - Kevin (lead), Jun, Asterian, NineZero Mixed in Cakewalk by BandLab (Nectar 3, Neutron 4, Ozone 10, Ozone Imager, Neoverb, Boost11) Lyrics: Tetanus vaccine gave protection as a child didn't help when I was bullied in the playground wild my teachers didn't care about the poorest of the pile. No tuberculosis, but depression filled my mind kicked out of Google, the cat died, hope declined nights were comfortless in spite of the anesthesia of a wine. Sorrow, longing and depressive nights why couldn't doctors vaccinate against those blights hey nurse, could you give me a remedy a needle to my butt and out of misery life was meager, inattentive I prayed for sweeter days to come I got only crumbs. For a very short while I danced with Martha Lee but she fell for a guitarist, Riley from Tennessee my heart was not immune to it, I got sick of chronic grief. I knew though she was that kind of girl who breaks her toys after few banging will change her lover boy still I couldn't fight the longing a virus from the shards of joy. Sorrow, longing ... Sky's like a painting of my life I look out at the grief in grey when the discourteous nurses change my diapers once a day. No faith in heavenly gladness but in the void without a concern sink this soul into oblivion of no return. Sorrow, longing and depressive nights why couldn't doctors vaccinate against those blights hey nurse, could you give a consolation prize won't clear the memories cutting like a knife but it calms down, it's a healer for the rest of my life the rest of my life. -------------------------------- Janne

Janne, this is very good. I liked the groove and backing tracks. I thought there are a few sections where the synth voices sounded rushed. Maybe a few less words would help? Otherwise this is a very good song that I liked.

Hi Janne, You have quite an imagination when it comes to song ideas! Very clever write as usual, and yeah, somewhat depressing but mostly fun. Love the line about Riley from Tennessee I get what Mario is saying about the lead vocal, he does seem to struggle in places. Good song, enjoyed. Cool ending!

Very cinematic and a lot of fun for a song featuring "sorrow, longing and depressive nights". Like your use of the guitar soloist for some occasional color during the song and more stretched out for the outro. The vocals are quite nice overall, some of the best vocaloid work I've heard. Agree there may be a line or two where a syllable or two less would help with the naturalness of the delivery.
Quite creative lyrically. Great job!

Otherwise this is a very good song that I liked. Thanks Mario for your positive review You are right, some parts are rushed. I worked hard to get that "virus" part sound more natural, but it seems that I failed. Thanks for the great advice, less words would certainly help, I have already idea for the verses. But if you mean the bridge part, then it is more tough one, because the melody needs to have that many notes... Janne

Your song is a bit strange lyrically, but I like it, maybe because I'm not yet the target group for your lyrics As others have already said, the lyrics are a bit hectic in places. I'll pass on some good advice Scott (Ezekiel's Storm) gave me after I posted my first or second song here: try to say the same but with less words. Best (lyrical) advice ever!

Hi, Janne. I see others have given helpful advice. So I can just say... that was not what I expected. Although with a title like that, what would one expect? It seemed like all your vocalists got in on the singing action. Thanks for the explanation, or I'd be really puzzled by this lyric: when the discourteous nurses change my diapers once a day.Interesting song!

Yeow, that title made me hope for the sequel called Smiling Happiness and Cheerful Days. Man, these lyrics are super good. Funny and true for the grumpy ones. Man, you really know how to shape those synth vocals, and translating is a whole nuther hurdle that you have cleared with ease (or so it sounds). I kinda like the rushed lyrics. Cool solo, too. The whole band kills it (as the kids say); it's slay, man. Much fun at the expense of the grumps. Enjoyed thoroughly, Janne. This is the end.

Hey Janne,
If there's one thing I can say about you, you know how to write a happy, really danceable rock and roll song with plenty of good laughs.
With all this great Rock and Roll music man what's not to love, and the parts about being depressed made me laugh out loud.
If this is what being depressed feels like put me in coach!!

Quite creative lyrically. Great job! Thanks DC for your kind feedback Glad you liked that guitar, BIAB has very good selection of soloists nowadays. Nice that you mentioned cinematic, I wish I had time to make a video for the song, I have some ideas and AI generated images already, it could have a more comical approach. Janne

Well, the depressing parts are helped by your humor considerably! These lines made us think of discussions we both had with family and friends in the local “home.”
“Sorrow, longing and depressive nights why couldn't doctors vaccinate against those blights”
We like the variety in the Synth V vocalists and your rock band idea was a great one for this subject matter.
Now we need a prequel for the “early years!” 😊
Kudos!

Great music arrangement and mix, but lyrically too down for me.
Some favourite Waoist Adages: #1: Play on the Way. #17: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you. #69: Bring consciousness to it. #74: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made. #105: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Wow this is excellent. The SynthV work is exceptional very human sounding. Singing difficult melody lines. The music fits the odd nature of the lyrics. This is almost a like a Rock Opera. Impressive

Very original sound with the melody and instrumentation. Dark tone, but tempered with some humorous lines (at least in English), such as "hey nurse, could you give me a remedy/ a needle to my butt and out of misery" and "hey nurse, could you give me a remedy/ a needle to my butt and out of misery."

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
