Sitting On Top Of The World

Hi Folks,

My version of "Sitting on Top of the World" (also "Sittin' on Top of the World") - a song written by Walter Vinson and Lonnie Chatmon. They were core members of the Mississippi Sheiks, who first recorded it in 1930.

Vocals: Nigel Spiers

Bass: 420 Dow Tomlin
Horn Section: 3998 Chris West
Drums: BluesShuffleHard PG Artist 4
Piano: 1591 John Jarvis
Sax: 2017 Mark Douthit

NB (SOLVED)I just compared this WAV file on Soundcloud to the version in my studio. It is less than half volume and has also had all the life removed from it. Is this because I submit WAV files to Soundcloud? Should I submit MP3 files instead?

My Fault - Dave suggested it was the volume setting in the Soundcloud Ap. And sure enough he was right.

Nigel, this is absolutely fantastic!
You had my toe tapping from the git-go!
Fantastic arrangement - outstanding horn section.
Outstanding vocal.
Great mix.
Loved it.

PS - I have noticed volume changes also however my songs and this song had play back volume to spare; that is it was plenty loud here.
FWIW - I have found sending wav files to SoundCloud yield better results than MP3s. Why send a compressed file to a company that is going to compress it anyway prior to posting it?

My goal this weekend is to move just enough each day so that no one pokes me to see if I'm dead or not.

Nigel, this is a beaut! The band arrangement is perfect, your energetic vocals are infectious (the good kind), and the mix is stellar. Really love what you do with this style of music.

Your track played on Soundcloud without my having to adjust the volume from the level I was using to listen to earlier songs. Haven't noticed any degradation from loading .MP3 files to Soundcloud, but Mario makes a valid point, and I think I'll start loading .WAV files...

Nice arrangement (I was familiar with the Cream version).
Very engaging and the Souncloud version sounded fine to me. (It's probably a good thing not having the original to compare with).
Excellent.

I've heard a few different versions of this song over the years, never heard the original though.

Really well done, Nigel! Love the arrangement, and as I've said before you have the perfect voice for this type of material.

Audio sounds fine at this end. Soundcloud has a spot where you can adjust the volume during playback, maybe that's what's happening with you? Check the little speaker icon at the bottom of the page, that's a volume slider.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your comments.

Also - you were quite right - my volume setting in the Soundcloud Ap was set way too low. I'm a bit embarrassed.

Best Regards
Nigel

Great use of BiaB samples. Lovely arrangement and mix for a classic song. Vocals excellent too.

Every song you sing, without exception, has that "twinkle" and smile in your voice. It's absolutely great to hear. You are, truly, so talented - and one can tell you've having fun, recording them all. A joy to hear you sing - bravo.

Hi, Nigel.

Your songs are always "pro" - the playing is impeccable, the mix is clean and balanced, and the vocal effortlessly musical.

Fun song, too! laugh

I don't know the original song, but you made a cool toe-tapping cover version of it, and you really have the perfect voice for this kind of music, Nigel.
Good stuff!

Hello Nigel,

You certainly know how to bring back the 30's.
Very well done!
So, the title suits you. But hopefully your baby didn't run away too.

That sax sounds very good! Immidiatly one comes 'in the mood'.
I think it was Brain who talked about the toe-tapping effect. That happend to me too!

Great revival of that song,
Hans
