Hi there, I am pretty new to this tool and working through the basics.

I like to print the lead sheets to use when playing with others and have been chasing a couple topics.

1. Is there a way to have the capo indicated on the lead sheet? I can set the capo position and the chords adjust correctly, but I can't seem to get this to display on the lead sheet.

2. I have a song where the chord displayed on the lead sheet is different than what was entered (and showing) in the main view (see attachment). Am/G is showing as Am/Bb. All other chords are correct.

Thanks,
Scott

Welcome to the forum, Scott.

I cannot help with Question #1; I'm not a guitarist and I never experimented with printouts that would show what you asked.

Question #2, though, sounds like a bug. Can you post the song on a public upload site*, like free Dropbox, and provide a link to the song? I would like to verify the problem. Then I can report it directly to the developers.

* this forum does not allow attaching a BIAB song file

Hi Scott.

I've had a look and it seems that the capo information is not automatically added to the lead sheet. This information could be written on the lead sheet after it is printed. There are also a couple of ways of adding this information in BIAB. The easiest would be using "Section Text" layer and enter the information in that layer at Bar 1. This prints on the lead sheet.

I have used the Standard View mode to access this. If you are in Full Screen view, you can use CTRL+T to switch between views.

This can be seen on the lead sheet below.

In relation to question 2...

Check to see if you have the latest update installed. I have the latest update and the slash chords printed correctly for me. Update information is found under "Help >> About Band In A Box" and it is in brackets after the version of the program. For example, I have Version 2024 (1111). This means that I am running update #1111. This is the latest update for version 2024. If you need to update your version, the latest updates can be found at the link below.

Thanks all for the replies!

@ Matt, I have uploaded the song here.

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/vg0uf5w14l9ikhd8odaw5/Marianne.SGU?rlkey=9xozb2l5werm6vm1u18twnfb8&st=t2hb6g21&dl=0

@Noel96, Thanks that works for me as I am only using the sheets when we rehearse. I double checked and I am on the latest release (for Apple computers)

I take that to mean to enter any specific text such as Capo setting in the 'Composer' or 'Composer2' edit boxes from the Notation Options.

I downloaded your song from Dropbox but it does not resemble what you first posted. The downloaded song, Marianne, is in Bbm (five flats in the key signature) and does not have the chords you showed. The style is Old Time Bluegrass.

Different song?

Matt,

Scott mentioned using the "Guitar capo" visual transpose in his original post. I'm guessing that that's the option found under "Chord Display". When I set that option to having a capo on the second fret, I get what Scott posted.

Unlike Scott's post, though, I also get the correct chord on the lead sheet. I suspect that the incorrect chord that Scott sees is a bug (as you've already mentioned) with the Mac version of the program.

I was confused that the chords weren’t in the right measures, so I didn’t consider transposition.?

Sorry for the confusion, I assumed the transposition would carry over with the file itself. It feels like the capo functionality is somewhat of an after thought. As I am playing primarily bluegrass and americana (even way over here in Germany) the capo helps a lot as switching keys on the guitar and banjo can be challenging, depending on what key the singer wants to sing in.

I am going to try to recreate the file in case I did something odd, as I am still figuring out the interface. I have done 6-7 other songs and not seen this.

thanks for the support, it is great!

Scott

yes. I always do "play key" So that I we all know what my real key is. I have used it for special instructions such as '* 8 Bar intro', not the default 4 we usually use.
I haven't used copywrite since it's at the bottom of the page. and it when you read it, it may be too late

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
