I am fond of using the Classics Track window - always have in PT and started to do the same when RB came along.
The problem is - I would like to access the FX presets available for the Audio Track Categories - so I need to open the "pretty gui" track window.
I go to the vocal track icon, right click, track category, vocal, unassigned!! I thought presets were created during setup - ie several fx presets for different types of voices - I distinctly remember seeing the icon male/female heads. Can't find them anywhere - I've opened the pretty gui track window in PT12, PT 2010 and RB 2010 (4) - but no joy. I really don't want to restore factory settings.

The help manual is not . . . helpful. Tells me how to get there OK but when I do and what I want isn't there, it doesn't tell me what to do next.
I assume I'm looking for .tgs default files that were not installed properly.

I know some of you use these presets - so how do I get them operative.

Ian . . . with thanks

Enable windows indexing on that folder or drive that contains the tgs files

Category FX require it.

Brain's mush today.
But figured out how to do it. We'll see if my 512 RAM likes the adjustment . . . in the morning . . . after coffee.

OK Windows indexing has been set to automatic and rebooted.
Open RB and import an seq file. Right clicked on Audio Icon
Clicked on Track Category, Clicked on Vocal and got a list of "unassigned" but no FX presets.

Clicked on the track's expansion triangle, then clicked on Apply Cat FX
got the message "An effects preset for this track category was not found". It won't let me assign a "Generic Audio" track

I'm using Win XP3 and an external synth which shouldn't matter as this is audio.
My audio is set to MME if that is relevant.

Should these presets not have been installed with the RealBand installation. My version is the latest build.

Do any of you have the effects presets available??

Help - Ian

Yes I have them.
Maybe indexing needed to be on during installation (?)

Just a thought. Do you see the presets in the DXSettings folder? (Do they exist but are not found?)
Maybe reinstalling the PGDXPlugins will be all it takes..

You do have the PG pictures folder installed too, right? I think the pics help tie it all together..

Try right-clicking the track name area to select a category before attempting to apply effects.

Hi Bob

The picture folder is present in RB and PT
TGS files are not listed under "folder file types."

So I'll create a new extension . . . .but TGS files can be opened by RB, PT and BB -
How are they listed under your Folder Options?

Ian

They are in the DXSettings folder as default. Actually DXSettings/FactoryTGG folder. They are a series of numbered tgs files.

Win7 folder options are a little different than XP.

The file type associations show here under indexing options, but tgs files are not in the list of associated file types, I thnk the program just knows where to look for them.

Thanks for taking the time, Bob. Since it is a holiday here I'll have to give master control a call tomorrow to sort this out - none of RB, PT12 and PT2010 (installed separately) have these presets available from the Tracks window although the necessary files are installed in each program's folder.

I've been looking all day at "ini" files for clues ( I sound like Oren Lol)

I have seen indexing fix this so many times that I urge you to make sure it is functioning.

What OS, by the way?

Have you tried a re-install since enabling indexing? Just curious..

You may have to wait for it actually to do the indexing, depending on your hard drive size.

OS - Win XP SP3

went to Run | services.msc | indexing service - set to automatic from manual.
Then rebooted the computer.

Something I missed?

Hey Manning

No my drives are 7200 - the proc is 2.4 - and speed-wise it gets me to market. But DDR here even at discount prices is running at 65 Canucki a gig. But I do have a tax refund coming . . . .

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Bob.

Made the adjustment for PT12 and RB and PT2010 Folders and all programs have the presets restored.
Great start to the day.
Now if I can get my audiologist to tweak these new hearing aids to compensate for my severe to profound
hearing loss a little bit better, I'll be a happier man.

Definitely noticed a slowdown with the indexing - checked memory prices and PC3200 400MHz is $55 a gig.
Tax refund should give me $ for a coupla.

Thanks again for the help

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
