Hi, I'm using the Coffee Cup, The HTML Editor 2010 SE, and have a problem with cutting and pasting text from a word processor. When I do so, I get extraneous characters that are a capital A with a wavy line on top.

Anyone familiar with this?

Try cutting the words and pasting them to the clipboard. If you still have stuff it's coming from the word processor. You might need to export the file from there as in printing to a file.

In reality it's way better to use the clipboard for this type of work. You don't get great visual formatting buy if it's ascii it doesn't matter, any version of HTML does not want the extra characters from a word processor.

I see it all the time.
It's not coffee cup problem, as it happens in Alleycode, Notepad++ and others.

Quotes, apostrophes, etc. are not stored as typical characters in a lot of word processors.
As John mentioned; sometimes pasting to another program first will remove it, but sometimes not.
Find the offending character and use 'Find and Replace' to replace every instance with a normal character in one move.

The ones that are a bugger are the ones that appear as a blank space; these have to be cut right out. These often appear as a black diamond with a question mark in it, once viewed from a browser.
Someone should write a text cleaning plugin for some of these programs.

Text cleaning, easy in Unix and Linux. or any version of HP-Unix etc...

too bad...there used to be a suite of programs to add to your system to give you unix like stuff on windows.

Does it still exist???

The wife and I fixed a file last night from her office, 140 lines of 160 characters. Easy with vi.

Thanks for the replies. I hear what you are saying, but: I've been writing a weekly article for 10 years now using the same procedures and this stuff just started showing up.

Anyhow, I guess it's time to change the procedure.

Here's a suggestion to try.
I don't use coffee cup, so I can't test for you.

In the word processor; if using Word from MS you can select all, then copy.

Now go to the Paste button in toolbar and see if you find 'paste special'. On 2007 it is a dropdown item from the paste button.
This allows pasting as Unix, html, and other formats.

Thanks Bob,

That did have some effect, but did not eliminate the characters.

I got this week's work done by using Notepad and then opening the file in my browser. Actually, if you use a template, this works rather well.

I downloaded the version of Ervsoft 1st Page 2006. As I remember, after a while the nag screens come faster and faster.

Ervsoft 1st Page sounds like an imitation of MS Frontpage. Which is free I believe, if it's still around..

I usually use Alleycode or Notepad++.
I'll be using Dreamweaver this winter; required for class I'm taking. I've had it for a couple years and never use it..

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
