Does anyone have any suggestions for Band-in-a-Box all RealTrack endings, version 2010.5? I must be missing something somewhere, because that is where MOST of my time is taken up. I try with AND without using the 2 bar ending thing that it adds, I try with AND without the "start ending 2 bars early" and I have YET to see that it adds a 4 bar one for the RealTracks. In the final measure I have tried "shots", "holds" and "rests" in addition to just letting BiaB box just do it's thing. The only effective endings I've come up with (other than the obvious fade out to avoid the undesirable ones) is to keep "re-bulding" and freezing one track at a time until I FINALLY arrive at something acceptable. Suggestions?

Hi Janicelynn,

My observations are that Endings, Shots and Holds have been continuously developing and are often added to BIAB through updates. Do you have the latest build of BIAB? According to the below webpage, the latest update for 2010.5 is #304.

http://www.pgmusic.com/support_windowsupdates.htm

My understanding is that 4-bar endings is a device used by PG Music to achieve smoother, more professional sounding endings. It happens in the background and, as far as I know, has never been identifiable as 4 distinct bars.

Regards,
Noel

I know it's going to sound like a broken record, but -

Move into Realband for the finish work. You can highlite the end section and regenerate just that section on any track (or multiple tracks at a time) over and over very quickly to audition. Much more efficient, and I think it does a better of job of tuning the endings in. I never try to finish a song up in BiaB; that's why Realband does what it does how it does it. They give it to you free with BiaB, try it. It is the biggest step you can take to finish off your BiaB project in so many ways. Easy control of the mix, ability to add effects to any track easily, ability to add final effects, ability to copy, paste, and slide parts around, so many new things for those who only use BiaB.

Make your sound your own!
.. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

janicelynn, if I remember correctly, what is called a 4-bar ending in newer versions of BIAB is actually a 2-bar ending that is allowed to decay for two more bars, making it sound more natural.

Keep in mind that endings are much improved in BIAB 2011. For the first time, I am now able to record a BIAB song straight, with no editing, and make a creditable demo. Since you are particularly concerned about endings, I believe you would be very pleased with the upgrade. You can still do editing afterward that rharv mentions, but there will be much less of it needed.

What is annoying is that some real tracks have 4 bar endings and some still only have 2 so the drummer and bass will stop playing and the guitarist will carry on as if in a world of his own.

Yes, I'm sure I should move into Realband, I worked with it for a while, then got discouraged. I guess I'll try again.

That 4 bar ending for RTs was not meant for 4 bar endings. Yea I know it's confused things. What it's for is that with RTs you still get a 2 bar ending BUT it lets the RTs decay over 2 more bars for a more realistic fade instead of chopping them off.

I have no idea what I did to have my answers to each of you all clumped together!! LOL! At any rate, thanks for all your comments and suggestions. I am thinking it's a more or less "deal with it" issue. (:

Or try the update to 2011. The endings are better.

Hello Janicelyn,

There are only a very small percentage of RealTracks that don't have 4 bar endings. "4 bar endings" means that the instrument stops playing in the 1st or 2nd bar of the ending, but the sound decays naturally for up to two more bars.

4 bar endings were added "retroactively" to older RealTracks, and a patch was made available for them in May of last year:

http://www.pgmusic.com/support_windows_realdrums.htm#RealTracks01-82

If you already have the latest RealTracks files and "4 bar endings" aren't working in your song, it might be that your ending chord doesn't have a good sounding ending bar. Try a simpler chord like maj, maj7, min, or min7 and see if the ending sounds better then...

Also, make sure "use 4-bar endings for RealTracks" is enabled in the RealTracks preferences dialog.

If it's still not working for you, maybe you selected the wrong directory when you installed the patch.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
