Realband 2011 build 4b

1. I just got Garritan JABB 3, and was trying it out.I loaded a standard midi file into realband. I selected Jabb3 as the default vst, loaded in about six instruments and had some fun. I saved this as a realband file and saved the garritan setup in the realband vst box. Now when I open this realband file all the garritan instruments are set up. Great! Now the problem. Any realband file I open,Ican see the garritan sample loading screens flashing by. I reopened my original realband file and selected none for vst, emptied the samples from the current instance of Jabb3 and resaved. The realband file still opens with the original Jabb3 setup. Not only this, but even if I open a new instance of realband I can see the jABB3 sample loading screens flash by. I see the sample loading screen flash by in any realband file I open.

2. I was working on a song in Realband and opened a single instance of kontakt 4. I loaded a piano sample, recorded a midi part, rendered this midi track to an audio track and then closed kontakt and deselected it as a plug in. I resaved this realband file. Now when I reopen this file I can see the kontakt piano samples loading even though no instance of kontakt loads. This is in addition to also seeing the above Jabb3 samples loading. What am I doing wrong? Is there a file I need to delete?
Thanks for the help. Bobby

1. If you saved the Jabb3 as the default synth for the file it will automatically load when the RB file is opened, because it is the default synth. Check the synth selected in the MIDI devices window for DXi synth (reroute all midi to DXi synth) after openeing file.

2. If the Kontact is not selected for any track anymore, it shouldn't load. Double check the synth/port settings for that track after opening the file. You may have found a bug.

I now see that in any new instance of realband that I open Kontakt 4 is on port 17 and Aria player (Jabb3) is assigned to synth 4. I don't know how they got assigned like this, but more importantly I don't know how to remove them. Some help please. I have only been using the midi driver window or the drop down list "Assign specific vst to midi track" to set up my vst's. I'm also a little confused between ports and synths. Anyone willing to give me a quick tutorial? Thanks...Bobby

Problem solved! I opened the dxi/vst box selected the port/synth entered none, but then I opened options and clicked on save default settings. Apparently when I thought I was saving my Jabb3 patch set up for a particular file, I made it the default setting. Now, I know this is a global setting. I still could use a little explanation about the difference between assigning a dxi/vst to a port or a synth.Thanks...Bobby

You can use the OPTIONS > Save Default Synths which fixes a particular synth to an Output Port number. Very useful for GM based synths but not to those synths where you are required to designate the patches for each sequence. GM synths assign patches according the track settings for Program, Bank and LSB and therefore do not need to save the previous setups.

DXi and VSTi plugins use port numbers 17 to 32 and output through the host. Internal or external synths use Port Numbers 1 to 16 and output via their respective drivers according to their numbered positions in the MIDI Driver DISPLAY.

It seems complex at first, but really isn't.
You get one default DXi/VSTi synth. This is for basic use and is assigned to the last port (32 or DXi port 16) when you select the "Reroute all MIDI to default DXi port. If you don't do this I *think* the program then considers whatever DXi synth is being used is the default, which would be the one on port 17 (or the first DXi port)

The reason for ports is so you can route a MIDI track to a specific synth. You can choose up to 16 different synths by using 17-32 port numbers. You can even open a second instance of the same synth on a different port, and the changes made to it will not affect the first instance. Very handy. Most systems would not run more than 16 DXi/VSi synths at once so 16 ports is plenty.

As mentioned, the first 16 ports are for selecting different MIDI outputs on your computer to external devices, either synths or effects usualy (or even light shows). Most people only have one or two external ports so again the 16 ports (1-16) are plenty.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
