Here's a jingle for a local car dealer. All BIAB/RB. This is one fun program!

Thanks for the kind words Frankie. I know posting a jingle is a bit weird, but I'm having so much fun with BIAB I couldn't resist.

Hi Bob,

A great jingle. Totally professional on all fronts. You're making BIAB, RB and yourself sound awesome!

Thanks Noel and Tommy. The spot aired last night, and it sounded OK, but I'm doing a re-mix to bring the vocal up a bit. The radio station really squashes the signal, and the track loses a lot of dynamics.

Some software I have has a radio comp preset ,I'll see if I can find the settings maybe you can duplicate so it might slide through with out the need for it to change . For years I made a 30 min radio show of an Oprey House and as soon as I discovered the comp preset they never messed with it again . I'm not sure but I think a comp at the station does this to all music it deems below a certain level .It was the worst job ever , took 50 to 60 hrs of cut and paste to make their band radio worthy . The drummer never played till about the 3rd beat even though he counted it off ! I had to find a good turn-around to make a beginning with every time . And the singers were pitch shifted every few notes . It was a 2 hr. show but I had to include a bunch of the MC's jokes and local commercials just to squeeze out 30 minutes .

I think this was the comp settings ( Output gain 0 soft knee Attack time 8.7 release time ms 463.0 comp ratio 11.9:1 comp thresh hold -5.2 ) I did this back in 99 thru 04 don't know if it's still a good setting for radio comp ,but maybe it might be a starting point. Use to wonder why they did it ,but the station was all computer run and I only got to speak to comp operator who knew nothing about any details of the operations .

Thanks a million Tommy! I'm using Sonar Producer 8.5.3, and I will try those settings. Sounds like a real nightmare you had going there. Makes me glad I'm only doing these dinky little jingles!

Is this an AM station, or an FM station? If it's a mono station, check the mix in mono. I would advise against applying any 'radio station compression' preset on a comp. That's a recipie for disaster. If you heard the spot and need to bring the vocal up, do a remix. But avoid applying heavy master buss compression and/or limiting. That's what the station is doing and having it applied twice- once from you and once from them- will be terrible. Good luck.

Thanks Dan. I'm aware of station compression, and I still have a nice spiky signal with plenty of dynamics. It's an FM Stereo station (but I always check mixes in Mono anyway). I did a remix with the vocal up a bit. I don't have any mastering plugs like Ozone, so I have to get as much bang for my buck that Sonar can provide.

Glad you enjoyed the jingle Rob. I remixed it and added a bit at the end.

We really love Greer as well. After 25 years in Florida (God's Waiting Room), it's nice to be in the Blue Ridge again.

That sounds good. So, you did the whole thing in BIAB and Real Band? What type of mic did you use for your vocals?

Yes. BIAB/RB/Sonar 8.5.3. Vocal mic used was a Studio Projects T3 tube.

Bob

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
