I just installed my Audiophile 192 sound card.
I have the levels set to play wav & mp3 files that are on my computer.
Any songs in BIAB & RB are WAY too loud! I can't find where to set the levels lower.

Mick,

Have you tried using the volume control by track? By default it's usually set all the way up at 127 unless you adjust it. It's in the toolbar to the right of the instrument drop down menu in BIAB.

The tracks default to 90 in RB (I think)

I'm wondering what he is comparing it to.
If it's something like Win Media Player, make sure the volume is all the way up there (and in the windows mixer).
If it's a different device, make sure both devices are set all the way up.
You won't get true meter readings in RB if you pull the tracks back, and it's not recommended if you want to mix/master.
I suspect what Mick is comparing RB to is turned down, and RB isn't.

Adjust whatever you are comparing it to, and then turn down the monitoring system. RB has no way to 'amplify' the sound (except FX in the main output), it can only cut. Same with other audio software. The other software that you are comparing RB to must be 'cutting' the volume more than RB. It would be rare if that were not the case.

Mick,

Also, if you open BIAB and RB and then click on your speaker icon, you should have a "mixer" option. You can also adjust levels from there.

I have the volumes set in the Win Media Player & the soundcard at 15 (out of a possible 100)
wav files play a a nice volume for me.
BIAB & RB almost blow my speakers out!!!

Then set RB to 15 out of a hundred (with the A1 slider in lower right of mixer)

I tried to describe a better way .. turn the others all the way up and turn the amp down..

My stereo is barely on as it is. (15-20%?) Volume knob starts at 7 O'clock, I generally keep it at 9.
If I turn Windows mixer to 100%, I get distortion with the volume BARELY on.
If I set RB A1 to 37 it's a close match to my CD & wav files.
Is there a way to set the volume of BIAB & save?

Thanks so far...

Mick

Mick,

Ditto to what rharv said for RB. I failed to mention the "Combo" button in BIAB. It's in the second tool bar down from the top. Unless you've adjusted it, it will be turned all the way up to 127.

You can definitely adjust your volume level to whatever you want here in BIAB and with what rharv said about RB.

I'm running 2009.5, so this may differ for you. If you lower the combo level, and then close BIAB and reopen it, it resets to 127. However, if you adjust the level of each track and then close it, it saves the levels.

That's the main reason I suggested using track levels. I searched the options and preferences and I couldn't find a way to save "Combo" levels.

Mick,

Check the Audio DX effect settings in both as well. You may have the Peak Limit running in the programs.

Well some BIAB things are not available in Win 7. (I have BIAB 2010.5)
However...I use Edirol Hyper Canvas as my softsynth. I turned it from 127 to 37 & the levels are okay now.

Thanks Bob & everyone else.
I don't think that's how the signal chain is supposed to be gain staged, but it's the only thing I can see to get the volume controllable.

I'm not sure that I've used the VSC... I may have, just not sure.
I tried a number of softsynths & nothing compared to the Hyper Canvas overall.
There are a couple glitches in Hyper Canvas that Roland knows about & said they had no intentions of fixing. The one I've experienced often is "the rogue bass drum". The volume just jumps & isn't consistent with the rest of the drums. (not all the time tho'!)

I generally use SampleTank for the drums now.

Mick, that "rogue" bass drum is one specific kick sample that is stuck on a volume of 127. When you first set up Biab to use the Hyper Canvass Biab should give you a window asking if you want the bass drum remapped to a different patch number for the kick. Say yes and it's fixed because all it's doing is using a different kick sample that does not have that flaw in it.
Ok I just opened Biab. Go to Options>Preferences>Drum Kit. See the first thing in the upper left? It says Kick-Pop and Kick-Jazz. Mine says 35. That's the kick patch number. Change it by one either 34 or 36 can't remember now, and problem solved. Some time ago Peter put in that little tweak to do it for you the first time you select the HC in the DXi window.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
