I'm not a performer, and I don't write any music for commercial purposes, but I would like to enhance my BIAB/Realband work with (for example) an occaisonal female vocal, or perhaps a more accomplished male vocalist, or maybe a singer with a particular type of style.
How practical is it to connect with collaborators like this over the net? Is there a place to get introduced to folks like this? Any general advice?

Thanks,
Tom

I have worked on over 50 tunes on the Musicians Collaboration Studio site, and for the most part it was an enjoyable experience.

On this tune, Square Stone, I ran with a piano-vocal demo. I played Drums, Bass, & Rhythm Guitar, another guitarist & keyboard player joined in, the singer liked it, and in 2 weeks we had a finished tune.

The only downfall is sometimes it can take weeks for someone to get a track to ya.....but overall it's a fun place to check out.

Where do you live? IF you are in a fairly major city, head out to open mic nights and meet people. Network. Use Facebook type social networking sites and see who is playing where. For example, here where I live there are 7 open mic opportunities that I knew nothing about until I met a few people who normally attend either to watch or perform. I have been a spectator, but will be signing up to play a 3 song slot maybe next week. One of them is so popular there is a waiting list to get a 15 minute slot.

Of course if you live in a city of 500 people with no live music scene it will be different, but there are not many cities that have NO music scene at all, and at worst case you may be an hour from an active music community.

The only thing about online collaboration is just what JCS said. It may be weeks before they get around to your stuff. In a home studio, it's NOW.

There are so many I have used 2 indaba and splice ,but I received too many weirdo's with little talent wanting me to do a whole song and mix down too, or kids with rude comments. Just set your email to not receive and pick the good one's from profile tunes they make .

An actual collaboration, where musicians build a song on the web, requires skills that are already finely developed at - http://www.kara-moon.com/forum/ . The forum members are courteous and capable. There is even a PG Music section. Vocalists, however, are in short supply...

You can find vocal performances in various audio formats at http://www.looperman.com/

The only thing that would deter me is that sadly in this world trust is such a huge issue. It would be my luck that I collaborate with someone and next year I find out that some singer from Montana released a song I wrote and had a hit with it. Then I have to start EXPENSIVE legal action, etc.... Plus, I need the human interaction and eye contact as my song comes to life. I am fortunate to be in a city with a very large and active music community and within my circle of friends I have top level singers, drummers, etc....

Thanks, Pilgrim!

The gentleman - Kevin Parks - who programmed the synthetic sounds and mixed the tune was dying at the time, and has since left us. I had the privilege of laying down the guitar tracks and mastering the production.
It's at times like these (working with an inspired musician who was making his last few artist statements) that the collaborative experience really shines.

The poor fellow must have been desperate for inspiration...

I'm currently including a certain Tommy C. on my list - the newest addition. Your chops got me all hot and bothered, and I'm afraid I've given my guitar a horrendous workout over the last few days. Feels good...

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
