Is anyone using an EWI USB controller with the newest Mac version? I am really interested in buying Band In A Box, but If i can't use the EWI it's not worth it to me.

OK, I have the non usb version.

I have the pc version of band in a box.

What the heck do you mean use it with band in a box?

Most folks use a mixer, run the output of the virtual band, lets say drums, keyboard or piano, bass, and you on the 'horn'.

So you play along right?

That's the point of the software, to provide backing tracks.

If you want to make sheet music of what you play there are other apps for that.

I messed around with trying to play keyboards through band in a box, and with some work it's ok. But why? My Korg keyboard has better sounds. I use the internal sounds from the EWI if I play that. I mix them all and my mixer is usb so I can record on my pc without problem.

Band in a box describes what the program does. Rock Band, Country Band, jazz band, whatever. Pick other instrument, layers of them, turn them off at bar x and on at bar y. Change the drummer, change the bassist..the sky's the limit.

I suspect you need to describe exactly what you want to do and see if there is a potential match.

Sorry, I should have siad that I am initially intereseted in being able to generate songs that I canplay along to for practice, mostly. I would love to be able to use the Garritan samples that came with the EWI to play lead parts in songs. If that weren't possible, I would like to at least be able to play sax and flute parts.

The typical setup would be for you to take the lead.

Thus if you take a Standard like All of Me...(you can find 30 versions of it FOR Band in a Box on the net) and mute the Melody. I then have solos generated and print them out and freeze them which speeds things up. I mute that part too.

So I have a drummer, a piano player a bass player and guitar perhaps and I play along for 1 verse, on the 2nd I play the solo part it generated and on the 3rd pass I go back to melody with enhancements.

Works great no matter if you want Danny Boy or Satin Doll or I'm so Lonesome I Could Die.

The best is the fact you can speed up, slow down, and change keys or octaves with just a click or two.

As far as internal samples to play with I don't know, I suspect there is going to be some issue there, but that I can't predict. What I can predict is that if you get about 5,000 songs from the internet that play in the box, and use the whole with a mixer and some nice speakers or headphones, you have enough music to play for years.

I learned how to play horns using Band in a Box. I bet I would be no good at all unless I had the software, because it's easy to get bored. I've never wanted for music for years, as long as the box awaits...

My real question here is to wonder if I plug the EWI into my Mac running BAIB and do the right thing to assign myself to be the lead, will I actually hear anything? The other thread on here about using the EWI USB was mostly posts by people who couldn't get it to work at all. I was hoping that had changed.

Hello Thorny,

If you refer to the other thread you'll see the resolution at the end of the thread:

Quote:

Yeah man. . I uaed BIAB 2010. In "Audio MIDI Setup" I created a new external midi device. I don't know why I did this, but Andrew, the support dude told me to. I then connect the ins and outs from my EWI USB that that new external device, which I named "virtual EWI." THEN, inside BIAB, I Choose MiDI Ports, and I get this weird blank line. I choose that weird blank line, then close everything and it work!

It's that easy! ha.

Hope that works in your case.

Thanks,
Will

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
